Great hotel and deal! We loved it!

We were spending 3 days in NYC and debating whether to pay for a NYC hotel or pay less on the outskirts. Pros and cons either way but we decided to save some money and stay in Jersey City. We loved this Ramada and it was about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a similar room in NYC with probably more room. We got a king size bed plus another separate room with a double. We were within a 5 minute walk of the PATH station at Journal Square that took us to 33rd St. or World Trade Center. This was about a 20 minute train ride each way. A lot of what makes a hotel memorable is the service and this Ramada had great service! Front desk folks were very welcoming and helpful. My 10 year old wanted to check out comic book stores in NYC and one of the desk clerks took time to find and print out a list of his favorites and their addresses. The neighborhood is older and very ethnic. We liked it. We always felt safe and enjoyed the atmosphere. Good and reasonable food 2 blocks away at the VIP Diner. While it took time to ride the train in and out of the city everyday, it was definitely worth it to us and the money we saved. We went to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and boarded from the New Jersey side, which was about 3 miles from us. Highly recommend this as our ferries were not even half full and all of the ones from the Manhattan side were packed. (We went on July 5th.) We were also a short train ride from Hoboken and Carlo's Bakery from Cake Boss. Get there at opening time if you want to buy something. We were there about 1.5 hours and we got there at 7:40am on a Thursday. Overall a great 3 day stay and we saw all that we wanted to so riding the trains didn't reduce our schedule. We highly recommend this hotel. Plenty of space, clean and great service and location for our needs.

Depending on the size of your family and the number of trips you will make into NYC, definitely get a SmartLink PATH card for the train. There were 6 of us in our family so this was definitely worth it. $5 to purchase a card but then each trip costs $1.30 vs. the normal $1.75. You can also use the same card for everyone. You will need a separate Metro card for travel within NYC or you can just walk. It's only 9 blocks once you get off at the 33rd Street stop at the end of the PATH line to 42nd Street and Times Square. A separate PATH train will take you to the World Trade Center and you can walk from there to Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge, Chinatown, etc. The walking can add up quickly but so can the costs for subway rides as they are $2.25 per person per ride with a Metrocard. If you're there for several days then an unlimited ride card might pay off for you but we just didn't need to ride the subway that much to make it pay off. There are bus options as well but we didn't use those.

Ramada Jersey City

I was attending a conference and pretty much everybody at the conference was staying at this hotel. Yet the hotel provided no courtesy transportation to the conference which was at the University a few miles from the hotel. The room was okay, though for the price it should have been much better. The employees were very courteous and prompt though a few of them could have helped me with my travel troubles being I was staying with them.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

This is the place to dine out. Lots of Indian, Asian and Latin restaurants from cheap to expensive. And the waiters and waitresses were just awesome!

Value for the Money

The location was convenient, the free continental breakfast hit the spot, the bed was very comfortable and the room was larger than what I expected. There was a 24 hour diner two blocks away which helped when you want dinner at midnight. Best of all it was two blocks from the Journal Square PATH station with 24 hour access into New York City for $1.75. Parking was available one block away for $12 per day but I lucked out and found free parking on the street since it was a weekend. However be careful about reading the signs. I was parked in a loading zone effective Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM and retrieved my car at 9:45 AM just before the parking enforcer got there. Another unlucky driver received a $42 ticket. The only complaint was that the elevator was tiny and barely could fit my bicycle and I. However I would definitely stay there again.

Perfect for a Weekend Trip to NY.

This is not a Fancy Hotel but you wont be let down with the benefits and value for the money it provides. Close Proximity to Journal Square Path Rly Sta. makes commute to 33rd st and WTC Rly Stations easy. The Room was very clean. Air conditioning needs some work though The Window AC does not cool the room effectively...(A minor issue) There are a few Restaurants around along with A 24/7 white castle. The Breakfast in the morning was amazing. This is a perfect place to stay if you are planning to visit New York City over a weekend.(I would prefer weekend because the subways were not crowded)..

Decent

We came to NYC to visit Manhattan and decided to stay at the Ramada because it was close to the Journal Square rail station. This all worked out very well. The station was not far away, the hotel was easily accessible, and the room was as expected. The parking was not as convenient as would be preferable, but not bad considering how close to Manhattan it is.

Just a little off...

We like to stay in Jersey City when we take our oldest back to college in NYC. Tried the Ramada after reading reviews. Room was hot, hot, hot and layout was just plain weird, with uncovered pipe running through kitchen. Window next to pipe was open when we got there - should have been a clue! Room was clean, price was reasonable, but there was something just a little off about the whole place.

Ramada Jersey City stay

I was staying at the Ramada Jersey City because of attending a Symposium at the Stevens Institure of Technology. The location allowed me to use the PATH subway system to get to the Symposium with little trouble and the cost was worth the stay.
