Not what we expected

We were so excited to book two nights at El Corazon after all the brochures we had received in the mail. We were moving from Villas de Santa Fe to El Corazon on Indian Market Saturday, and our confirmation paper noted check-in @ 4PM, so we finished the Market @ 5PM and drove in ten minutes later to closed gates. It took 15 minutes of calling different numbers with our cell phone (in the rain) until we finally reached a real person (Scott) who kindly gave us the gate code. We unloaded the car and walked in the rain to our room, because we could not access the underground parking until the following morning when we checked in. The staff was very helpful, but our confirmation should have noted that doors lock @ 5PM. Also the technology in the room needs updating. Our internet was locked off until the afternoon of the second day, and the TV and cable remotes were ancient! We had no housekeeping for either of the two nights, yet we paid $135 housekeeping fee on top of the $458 for the room!! For those prices, we could have booked La Fonda and had room service and our beds made! Or for less, we could have stayed at Villas de Santa Fe and had shuttle service to the Plaza, since both nights we had to walk in the rain to dinner, and walk back in the dark! We shall not return.

Scott and Nancy were very nice and the 15% discount on restaurants through El Corazon helped reduce that crazy $135 housekeeping expenditure!

Hidden Gem, close to town center

This place was an elegant value that was not really a hotel, but rather, a condominium unit about 4 blocks from the center of town in a new, low-rise development. We expected a 1 bedroom unit and ended up with a 2-bedroom unit for the same price. Orbitz helped us score this find during the Memorial Day weekend, when everything else was 50% more expensive if available at all. The "hotel" also gave a 15 - 20# discount card for local restaurants which further sweetened the pot. We will return to this spot the next time we visit Santa Fe.
