Reasoably Priced & Comfortable Hotel
We had a good night's sleep after a flight delay. The bar had men using foul language and no enforcement of civility by the bartender, so we only passed through there instead of buying a drink and went on to the computers at the business center which were free.

Ideal for a Romantic Getaway and Quiet Business Trip
We decided to mix business with pleasure and combine a well deserved foodie birthday trip with the onset of NAB. We were hoping for something not far from the strip, fairly priced, comfortable and quieter than being on the strip itself. Boy did we luck out with the Hampton Inn. Going off other reviews for this spot, we booked knowing we were saving 100+ a night just by being a few blocks off the strip. The room was cozy, the counter staff were friendly and helpful, and our stay was everything we were seeking. There was a taxi strike during the time we were visiting, but the hotel was happy to call available cabs on our behalf and our wait was never unbearable. The hotel cleaning staff was a little aggressive; we were taking an afternoon nap on the second day of our stay, and they knocked two different times and called another time to offer us room cleaning. We more or less slept through the fuss. When we finally did step out after a two hour snooze around 4pm, the cleaning lady was at the ready to make up for lost time. Even without our calling downstairs to make the cleaning request as the voicemail instructed, she hopped in and changed all the linens. If the staff have to be aggressive about something, we're happy for it to be cleanliness! As mentioned in other reviews, it's true the room didn't have a mini fridge, but that was really the only accoutrement lacking. Honestly, 50% or more of the time the leftovers we bring back go to waste or don't get eaten before we leave, so the inconvenience was a small one to bear. They do have a small snack shop and 24 hour coffee service in the lobby, on top of the breakfast available 6-10am, so you should have everything you need. Oh! Also: Vegas hotels and casinos are filled with an unruly amount of smoke everywhere you turn. We casually chose a non-smoking room when we booked, and we were so glad we did. It was our one real respite from the nasty interiors elsewhere, since the wind and rain didn't enable much time in the fresh air outdoors.

Short drive from hotel
Check out Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill. It's a bright spot in what is otherwise a slew of chain restaurants at every corner with food you've had 50 times before. The Honey Glazed Salmon and Spiced Fries that come with the pork sandwich are unbeatable, as is the salted caramel sticky pudding.

Value for money
The room is very clean and the bedsheets are fresh and clean. The hot breakfast is an added bonus plus the free wifi access. We said in the future, we'll be back to this hotel as we're able to get value for our money.

Fun in Vegas
The Hampton Tropicana was good - location, hotel atmosphere, clientele, breakfast, friendly staff, lots of pillows. I would stay there again, but would hope the shuttle was a little more regular on scheduled stops.

Money-saving tip:
Long walk from hotel
When heading out of the hotel, proceed across the freeway bridge because the walkway is lighted, instead of walking the shortest distance from the hotel to the strip.

Great staff and property but off the beaten path
The staff at the hotel was always helpful. Free shuttle bus to and from the airport as well as the Tropicana and Mandalay Bay (which puts you on the "strip"). Diagonally across the street from In and Out Burger if you like that kind of food.

Make use of the shuttle bus to get to the strip as there is not a great deal going on near the hotel. It suited me perfectly as a business traveler.

Great stay!!!
My friend and I arrived around 4:30pm on Friday, driving from Los Angeles. Due to the weekend being 11/11/11, the rooms were getting packed quickly, so I wasn't able to get non-smoking, but my reservation was smoking with non-smoking being a side request. The room itself was very clean and the smell of smoke was so faint that it didn't even bother us. That, and the casino's have smoke it them anyway, so it didn't really matter about the room being a smoking room cause we knew we'd have that smell on us anyway. We stayed in a room that was next to an exit and the parking wasn't even an issue. I was able to park in a stall next to the exit door, so it make for quick access to my room...literally 15ft away, awesome! I loved that cause we didn't have to walk through a casino, then another lengthy walk through the parking lot (should we have chosen not to use valet) just to get to my car. It was super convenient! The bed was very comfortable and they had a great HD flat panel tv which had several HBO channels that I was surprised, but pleased to see. The hotel itself is located just across the 15 freeway from the strip, and the freeway entrance is prob about 100 yrds from the hotel which was awesome! It's literally a 1-2 minute drive to hit the strip (less then a half mile), and you arrive by the MGM and New York New York casinos as you approach the strip. This hotel is a great option if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of a casino, and avoid the valet and resort fees. I will absolutely stay here again, and will prob not ever stay at a casino unless the event requires I do so. This hotel is just too convenient! We loved it!

Hamptin Inn Tropicana
The hotel is just off the strip within walking distance of New York, New York, Excaliber, and MGM Grand. It has a small pool good to laze around when the temperatures were too hot. We used the hotel as a base and within a few minutes was at Bellagio, Venetian, Ceaser's Place etc. It has a free breakfast, WiFi and PCs in a business center. All in all a good place to stay while visiting the larger casinos for half their price during a weekend.
