Great location
Overall this hotel was above average. The staff was great and welcoming upon arriving. The furnishings in the room we a bit dated and worn. The built-in around the TV came off its tracks when I open it and the couch in the room has a "pleather" feel to it. The location is the best part in my eyes, just a short walk to Grand Central made my experience. Overall good, just needs to have a few touch ups here and there...

The Alex is a nice hotel
We enjoyed our stay at the Alex in NYC. It is just off of 3rd on 45th. There is a great diner for breakfast across the street and a mini market for items like water. The staff was great and well trained. Everyone acknowledges the guests whether janitor, maid, or manager. Check your bill when you leave to be sure you aren't charged for anything you didn't purchase from the mini bar. Could be unusual human error, but check to be sure. We will return to the Alex.

Highline Park, NYC --- a different point of view. Leads to Chelsea Market. Crowded on the weekends with people walking.

Good Location, needs amenities
Our room was spacious enough for 2 people. Fairly clean. Location of hotel was good, near all the places we wanted to visit and near Grand Central Station. Disappointed no coffee maker in room. No vending machine for ice on floor, had to request ice, got it once, second time we requested, the ice never arrived. Lobby staff were not very attentative or friendly when we first checked in, next day a little better reception. We had 3 large pieces of heavy luggage, no door man to help open door, or take up to our room.

Comfy bed
The bed was really comfortable and nice. The other furniture in the room was very uncomfortable and awkward. The room was clean and well maintained. The turndown service was spotty (only happened two nights out of the 6 nights we stayed) and the towels weren't replenished the same eat day (sometimes 3 handtowels, sometimes none, sometimes had a bathmat, sometimes didn't). We had to request ice from the front desk every time we needed it. Charged for Wi-Fi (fail!). The location was great. Just a couple block walk from everything.

Need heavy foot
Nice, clean hotel, near the United Nations. However, I couldn't get the toilet to flush without putting my foot on the button! It was that hard to press in. And the desk provided no help, altho they recognized my report when I left.

Deceiving
The room was extremely small and cramped compared to what was described online. It made you want to spend every minute out in the ciry, even in the bitter cold.

Location location location
I arrived at midnight and the staff was just as fresh and courteous as if it were the middle of the day. Check in was a breeze and I went straight up to my room. Having read some of the reviews of the rooms I was nervous about the size, but found it to be just fine. There was a queen bed and a chaise lounge. The closet was fine and there were several drawers. People write that you have to know the person you are with very well to share this room and I think that is true of any hotel room. Who's shacking up with strangers? Weirdos that's who. The room was clean and the bath towels were nice and soft and huge. Room service had an all day menu and the burger I had was tasty and my daughter fell in love with the turkey sandwich. This hotel was 100% adequate and I mean that in a very positive way. The location could not be beat! It was just a few blocks from Grand Central but on a street that was not horribly busy. We could get anywhere we wanted quickly and even a country mouse like myself could get to Grand Central in a snap. (Make sure you find Baked by Melissa on the route to the train!) The staff was mentioned briefly but again I have to say they were very attentive. For reasons unknown, the housekeeper forgot wash cloths every day and when i called to get some, they were prompt. The room service people were great and food always arrived within 30 minutes. The front desk was friendly and attentive and the doorman was extremely helpful. I will definitely stay at The Alex again and will tell my friends to do so unless they are weirdos traveling with strangers, then I won't talk to them at all.

Baked by Melissa (109 East 42nd Street) is a mini cupcake shop. There are about 8 flavors and you can get boxes of 3, 6, 12, etc. Dear God these are tiny bites of heaven. Cookies and Cream and Smores were my favorite but all are amazing and moist and you don't feel guilty eating 3. Ok if you do feel bad eating 3 then you have issues and really should just stay away from cupcakes. Go there, you won't be disappointed. There are other locations in the city but the one listed is on a walking route from Grand Central back to The Alex.

Great Turnaround for Aretha Franklin Show to See my Daughter perform
The service was great. I enjoyed the rush to get to Radio City Music Hall by the doorman hailing down a cab. Staff was very professional. Greetings was with a smile.
