Great Tourist Location
Rooms are small but clean and quiet. Staff very helpful. Great location for a New York visit. Accross from Museum of Nat. History and Central Park; subway and bus stops on corne; lots of neighborhood restaurants; coffee shops and a deli on every corner. This was our first visit to New York and we were very pleased with the Excelsior

Location Location
We were quite pleased with our stay at the Excelsior. It was half a block from Central Park and the subway. It was very easy to reach other destinations on the subway or by taxi. There were dining options nearby (especially Sarabeth's). The staff were cordial and efficient. The room was of adequate size and comfortable. The bedspread was too heavy and could readily be replaced with a lighter but as warm down comforter. All things considered, we had a great 5 day visit to New York and the Excelsior was a major factor in making our visit memorable.

Great location
The hotel is located a half block from Central Park, across the street from the Natural History Museum with a subway stop on the corner and the #1 line 3 blocks away. This made it easy to get around. The room we had was small but it was on the top floor with a fantastic view of the Park and the city skyline. The room and hotel were very well appointed and maintained. There are many fine restaurants and pubs in the neighborhood in all price ranges. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Pretty hotel in great location
Even though the tiny twin-bedded room I shared with my daughter was expensive, and the location is great: on the Upper West Side around the corner from the Museum of Natural History and just a block from Central Park. The room was immaculate, and it looks like the entire hotel has recently been redone. The bath featured sparkling new ceramic tile and nice toiletries, and the beds had four (!) pillows each, two of which were luxurious linens. You can barely get around one of the beds to get to the good-sized closet which had a safe and plenty of hangers. The TV armoire had several drawers for storage. There is an ominous sign on the mini-bar which warns that you will be charged if you touch anything for more than 20 seconds, so no food storage in that refrigerator! One complaint is that there is no coffee pot in the room, and the continental breakfast is expensive, although I found out that you can purchase a cup of coffee for $2. The independent restaurant 81 and bar in the hotel are wonderful with delicious and imaginative food, much of which is organic or locally sourced, attentive service and a happening bar. The concierge is helpful and very friendly. There is a great craft fair in the park across the street from the hotel in the summer.
