Nice quiet location
It was convenient location to go many museums due to near bus stop & subway. And, It was close to many restaurant & food market. It was quiet near Central Park & Natural History.

Great NY location
The Excelsior is an older hotel that has been nicely renovated. It has a restaurant and a nice fitness center. it is on 81st street in Manhattan, right across from the Museum of Natural History and the Rose Planetarium. It is steps from Columbus Avenue one way and half a block to Central Park West (and a subway stop) the other. It does not have much in the way of business services but is perfect for a personal visit or vacation travel to the city.

Nice stay
Best hotel I have stayed in NY so far on a private trip. Nicely decorated and very clean. Well located near the metro Line B and not far from Line 1 stop on 79th. Easy to walk across Central Park to go to the Metropolitan Museum, the Neue Gallery and the Guggenheim. Many restaurants at walking distance.

Nice boutique hoter
The Hotel was conveniently located near Central Park and many very nice restaurants. The hotel had been remodeled and the room was comfortable and stylish. The staff was friendly and helpful especially with the restaurant recommendations.

Beautiful hotel but not so friendly
Beautiful room, clean & comfortable. Across from small park and Museum of Nat History. Close to many museums & Central park. Nice neighborhood. Metro access was ok. Staff was unfriendly and not helpful at all. I expected better staff because of the location and appearance of the hotel. Got a great price.

Excellent Service and Great Hotel
It was great. The doorman helped me find a spot so I did not pay for parking and the hotel let me check in an hour early to get ready for a wedding. The rooms were clean and the location was perfect.

central upper west side affordable
went to attend my 20th columbia reunion. superb location for the upper west side/central park/museums/lincoln center. first time staying in a hotel in nyc after 10 years as a student. small room but that's true anywhere in nyc unless one forks over serious cash. would return without hesitation.

Good Cost Performance
The Excelsior Hotel was quiet, comfortable and the room seemed much larger than other hotels in NYC. There was adequate space for hanging clothes, extra space for sofar and they provided suitcase stands, iron and etc. The location was very convenient to subway. I would stay here again for my next trip to NYC !

Quiet & Classy
The Excelsior is very well-maintained and the staff is excellent -- very friendly and helpful. It's a terrific location. The room I stayed in was rather small, but certainly not cramped. The fitness center is very small. The room was very quiet. I could not hear anyone above me or next door (except the one evening when teenage girls ran up and down the hall shrieking because Johnny Depp was staying somewhere on our floor.)

Great location, the upper west side. Across the street from the Natural History Museum (Dinosaurs!), and around the corner from the Modern Art Museum. One block from Central Park, and plenty of shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants 1-3 blocks east.
