Awful hotel.
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Terribly run down and in desperate need of decoration. Staff were rude, apart from one. The smell of drugs in the corridors was disgusting. Carpets were very stained and thread bare. Bathroom fitments were rusty, tiles had scum, hairs and bodily fluid all splashed up them. The rooms were dark small and dingy. Lights didn't work. Everywhere was covered in dust. Rotten doors, and plaster coming off. Heating system very old and noisey. The bath was so old and rough you couldn't sit down in it. It was the tower of terror.

Great location, old hotel
The price is right, just know you are not at a five star hotel. It's NYC, so you will just be there to sleep and get ready and it was just fine for that. The location is amazing and makes up for a lot.

Great Break
The hotel is in a great location for access to all tourist attractions. The Statler Bar & Grill in the hotel served fabulous food bit pricey but worth it. The room was small but it did its job as we didn't spend loads of time in it. Great location and great value.

Great location
This hotel was very close to my place of business, across the street from Penn Station and quiet upstairs, and good enough for three nights. This is not the kind of hotel you need if you need to sleep in hotels 50+ nights per year.

The coffee people
My wife liked the shower! What you come to expect in hotels today just weren't there, it might be one of those NYC things. I expect free WFI and I just expect that everything would be clean, clean, clean. If I hadn't slipped my check-in person the $20.00 bill I would have been very disappointed, she upgraded us and thank God, we did get the private access lounge. While in there another guest said she had to move 3 times before she found a room clean enough.

Weekend Getaway
I cannot say many good things about the hotel except for the fact that is was outside madison square garden. The hotel looked and felt much like a dilapadated old house. Paint over paint on the walls, looks like it had not been remodeled since the 80's. But being that New York is quite expensive, that was a bargain stay, and you get what you pay for.

Dissappointed NYer
never again
We stayed here a few years ago and it appears hey haven't fixed the place at all since then. Walls and tile cracked, paint peeling, shower rusted and beyond disgusting. The bed was uncomfortable and it was dark and dingy. Other than the price, which was cheap for a sat in NYC, yet still too expensive after seeing the place (we paid about 190 for the night). Only thing the place has going for it is the location, and with little work and some TLC has some great possibilities.

Hotel Penn, a great deal
I have stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC about a half-dozen times. When I travel alone, I look for price, convenience, cleanliness, safety. I walk everywhere so 33rd and 7th is an easy walk to the theatre district, Central Park, Chelsea, etc. I go to see four plays in three days and am never worried about walking back alone. I was first concerned that such an inexpensive hotel might have critter problems. NONE AT ALL. I still bring my Bed, Bath, & Beyond spray, but have seen no traces of what is prevalent in Chicago. The walls are a bit thin so neighbors can be heard, but bed is comfy, water pressure great in bath, toiletries high quality, cable TV works great. Your room may even have a view of the Empire State Bldg.! Hotel Penn my first choice when I go to NYC.
