Comfortable room, lousy check-in experience

The room is clean and definitely comfortable. A great place to lay your head down to revitalize after miles of walking, subway and NYC crowd. Bathroom fixtures are looking worn, but works. Location wise, it is right at the edge of the east side, so a decent amount of walking is required. I normally don't mind having to walk, but when it rains, it makes it that much harder. The nearest metro stop is 54th st and Linvingston or Grand Central. The check-in experience left a lot to be desired. The 2 staff waiting on 2 guests had some issues and they appeared to be going out of their respective ways to help. But it started a queue of at least 3 people waiting in line for a good 4 -5 mins. During that wait one of the male staffer appeared to just be sitting around the concierge desk....not doing much. I assumed he was manning the concierge desk, so do not take check-in. After a good 4- 5 min wait he decides to call for check-ins. I didm;t mind it too much initially, but his attitude was just plain lousy and he clearly preferred not to serve customers. He wore a jacket that was too long on the sleeve and he even had to roll up his jacket sleeve. He was constantly checking his smartphone and was constantly distracted. A shame it just took one staffer's lousy attitude to take the edge off the stay for me.

Awesome experience. Staff was welcoming and very friendly. Only downside is that some of the rooms look remodeled but not completely finished. Some of the outlets show that the job wasn't completed. However i would still highly recommend. My price was averaged out to $190 a night and only 7-8 blocks from Times Square. (On Labor Day weekend)

wonderful stay in NYC

I used to live in NYC so I know the area. This time I took my parents to spend the July 4th weekend in the Big Apple. We booked a room facing the East River so we could see the Empire Building when laying on the bed. The fireworks were far and small but clear and beautiful enough. We could even see two fireworks spots from our window. The room was nice and clean. We used the Sauna, which was great. We should have used the pool and gym as well. The view was fabulous. The only two things to consider: 1. the distance from/to the subway is a bit far for my parents in their 60s. But if you take taxis, this hotel is close to everywhere. 2. the internet is available but too expensive. Still, thanks to the hotel & web discounts for giving us the most unforgettable July 4th!

We will definitely be back here

My boyfriend and I were visiting NY for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We chose this hotel not only for the price, but for the location (we wanted to be as close to Midtown as we could afford). We were staying in the tower that wasn't recently renovated (Can't remember if it was east or west tower, sorry!), but overall it wasn't bad at all. The rooms didn't come with plastic cups, a coffee maker, or a mini-fridge (apparently you COULD rent a mini-fridge if you wanted one) but it had plenty of fluffy towels and two glasses in the bathroom, which were all we needed for our champagne. We utilized the valet parking for the first night, which was $50 per 24 hours (or until you got your car out, at which point the clock resets and you owe another $50 to park it the second time). We only used that once, as we could find easy on-street parking thereafter. The concierge and the valet guys were AWESOME, they were really cool and my boyfriend made fast friends with them. He wants to go back just to see them again. The area is very safe (the hotel even has an on-duty bomb dog to suss out any trouble) and there's little delis/cafes within walking distance. The pool, while a bit small and taken up by a lot of little kids learning to swim, was a nice little activity to do in our downtime. The room was clean, the view of Roosevelt Island/Queens was great, and the bathroom was very clean with excellent water pressure in the shower. Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay here and would not hesitate to book again.

There is a taxi stop directly in front of the hotel. If you're looking to go out but you don't want to drive, just take a few steps outside the lobby doors and plenty of taxis will pull up in no time.

Has Seen Better Days....Years Ago

The hotel is old and a bit smelly. There's nothing wrong with the staff, who are courteous and polite, it's just that the hotel itself is from the late 70's or early 80's - which is so obvious. It's location on 44th street between 1st and 2nd avenue means one is able to get to grand central terminal within a leisurely 10 minute walk. So you're pretty set on location. I just felt it was too old!

Its Ok!

The east tower is for them the low end - dont expect any frills - no internet unless you pay, no breakfast unless you pay, no coffee at all in the room..... Now for $200US a night that seems a bit rick to me. Great location and all clean etc otherwise.

Lovely hotel - Beautiful views of Brooklyn Bridge and the East River

First time to NYC and was glad we stayed in the ONE UN. Stayed in a double superior room in the West Tower. Very comfortable bed, big clean bathroom with an amazing walk in shower. Big floor to ceiling window, offering a stunning view of the Brooklyn Bridge, Roosevelt Island and the East River, especially at night. Lots of storage space and a secure safe to keep our passports, money, etc. The Skyline Club Lounge provided complimentary breakfast - choice of pastries, bagels, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juice, tea and coffee. We also had complimentary drinks in the evenings which was a nice added bonus. Fast Internet access was also available in the room and a big TV with cable access. Helpful staff who booked our transport back to the airport. Location was good - short walk (approx 10 mins) from Grand Central Station, which is a couple of stops on the subway from Times Square. A few points knocked off for: - Room wasn't cleaned for the first couple of days. But after that we had a cleaner in every day. - A few areas of the room were a bit dusty... But nothing too drastic. Overall, really enjoyed my stay at the ONE UN, West Tower and would definitely stay there again.

Nice hotel next to UN

For the price and location, ONE UN is a nice choice. I stayed in the 39th floor in the West Tower. The view from my hotel room was fantastic. I heard the west tower is newly renovated and it's better than the east tower. If you stayed at the west tower you get free wifi and complimentary breakfast. I encountered some great staff here (the front desk manager named Steven) but the concierge lady was awful and talked to people with bad attitude. Overall I had a great time here, the location is right next to UN and many consulates. Also, is close to 42nd st subway station and the grand central.
