Very good option in the City!
Good hotel, very well located: close to Central Park, Subway right next to the hotel, 2 blocks from great shopping at 5th avenue. Had to pay USD3.75 for each luggage kept before check in and after check out until we went to the airport - it should be included in the price, in my opinion. Also, internet is not free and was charged twice - I complained and got all days for free. Staff, not very friendly, but OK when got good tips. Would stay again for location and value.

Terrific location
This is our 2nd stay here. It is what it is. Nothing grand, but a perfect location for getting around to all the main uptown sites. The staff are reasonable. The room was reasonably clean and definitely quiet. Our coffee supply was never re-stocked over the 3-day stay, but a few dollars on the pillow would probably have resolved that issue. The elevator system is computer-controlled, which takes a bit of acclimation. Of course, the extra charge for internet is always annoying. Cell phone signal strength was marginal (an inside room). We will probably go back because of the convenience and the rates.

Location was perfect for us!
We traveled to NYC to attend some activities at Lincoln Center, so we used this hotel as our base for a couple days. It was situated perfectly for what we wanted to do: Lincoln Center, Central Park, Columbus Circle, proximity to Times Square, Restaurant Row (9th Ave), and easy access to lower Manhattan by bus. No, the hotel is not brand new, so don't expect the ultimate in room/bathroom lighting, paint scheme, etc. BUT...it was very clean, quiet, a comfortable bed, and nice staff... and the lowest priced rate for the hotels in the same area. I booked only within the last two weeks before our trip date, and prior to that I was getting more nervous with each day that I was either NOT going to find a reasonable room rate or everything would be sold out. Once I finished searching a bunch of hotel websites I still settled on using this site to book the hotel. And with the "price match guarantee" I found out during my stay that I was getting another $10/day off my rate thanks to another user getting a lower rate than me. Pretty cool!! Check-in was seamless, as was check-out. All good!

Long walk from hotel
The New York Luncheonette is the absolute best place to find a good breakfast. Just like your rural cafe-style restaurant, you'll find the basics of eggs, sausage/bacon, hashbrowns, juice, and unlimited coffee here. We were really craving a simple place like this after a few days of NYC insanity, so we asked around and were told about the NY Luncheonette. Don't tell anyone else about this place-- it's our secret! 135 E 50th St.

First time in NYC - perfect location, great hotel.
I have just returned from my NYC trip where i stayed in this hotel. I requested a corner room with a view, which i received and was looking down on Times square. this hotel is located w 55 on 7th, where if you walk a few blocks to your left you are on times square and 2 blocks to your right you are on central park. The rooms are large for a new york hotel. The bar is ok for a drink, with friendly Irish staff. You are right near a tube station which is also very convenient. Concierge are very helpful. In general this hotel is in an excellent location, with large rooms, exactly what is needed for a nyc citybreak.

Quick Weekend Getaway
The hotel is a very short walk to Central Park and Times Square so you don't have to travel much for things to see or do. This hotel is old and if you don't have a street side room, forget about a view. Bed was comfy, no fridge, and the rooms tv wasn't impressive. Front desk and concierge provided great service. Bar in the lobby although I never went.

Go to the dining hall under the Plaza Hotel for lunch. Flatbread Pizza for $17 and Greek Salad for $8, not cheap but excellent value. PS, soda refills aren't free.

Bad experience
Front desk did not have my reservation when I arrived. Gave me a twin bed room when my reservation was for king. Front desk person said they did not have a king and that they do not guarantee it in the reservation. I showed reservation and that there was a different price for King. He said would need to speak w the manager. He came out with manager and said they found a room w king for me... Besides not having my reservation, having a problem in giving me the room I reserved, the manager made a point to come and tell me that for future reference, the hotel does not reserve specific rooms. The room was close to the vending and ice machine, it was noisy. It also had an unfinished closet--no light, a broken safety deposit box, carpet half way. The good thing about this hotel is the location.

Cool Place, in general
We loved the location! The hotel was a wee-bit hip. Thanks for the free-weights in the gym. Nice products in bath.Good beds/pillows. Problems were: no free lobby wi-fi, in room check out didn't work, bathrooms were musty smelling (we were in 2 rooms), A/C really didn't cool, dinky cups in gym, noisy halls. We'd go back at the righ price.

Great Mid-Town Location
If you have business anywhere in the mid-town area this is a suburb location. There's nothing fancy here; basic size and outfitted clean rooms in an older but maintained property. It's a good place to sleep and for the price, the value was outstanding. I've stayed in hotels up and down Broadway (7th) and this, for the business traveler, compares favorabley with all of them.
