GREAT!

We took a LONG weekend to visit friends and just hang around NY. The location is perfect and easy to get anywhere from 28th and Lex. We were right in the middle of many many Indian restaurants and I would highly recommend Vultan - on 3rd and 29th. It looks really tacky from the outside with a big elephant. They serve a full dinner for $29 - it is so much food and delicious vegetarian Indian. However, I would NOT recommend Brasserie Halles at Park and 29th - that's the home base for Anthony Bourdain - bad service and terrible desert (which is all we had). If you are looking for places to eat around the hotel go down to 3rd and there will be plenty! Craftbar is close by as well and we did have a decent dinner there. Anyway, the Park South Hotel was affordable and quite nice. The room was very small which is to be expected in NY, but clean and the housekeeping service was always prompt. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was served until 11 am and was really great. The bagels and pastries were fresh, and there was a meat and cheese tray, and lots of other food. Plenty for breakfast and even lunch if you were trying to save money. We did not have dinner at the restaurant but we did have a glass of wine and appetizer and the shrimp and scallop cake was excellent.

A pleasant stay with no surprises

The hotel was not a long walk from Grand Central so we decided to walked down. We were happy to enter the low-key atmosphere of the lobby. Staff were friendly and accomodating. The room we were given was small but adequate for the two of us. It was very clean and quiet. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood as we love indian cuisine and there many choices available. The following day, we checked out the Museum of Sex located just a few blocks away. It was interesting and we giggled a lot but we don't think it was really worth the entrance price.

"The good, the bad, and the really ugly"

First, let me say that we travel alot and my expectations are pretty realistic. If you are picky about your Hotels then this is not a good choice. We paid about $200/night during spring break. Hotel location was good in terms of underground and walking access to places of interest such as Times square, Soho, etc..however, the front view of the Hotel is a parking lot and the street is not that great. It's not a nice clean quiet street by any means. The largest and most expensive rooms are facing either the front street or the back. Both very noisy with traffic, trucks, garbage pick up, etc. The noise is buffered by a very loud air conditioning/heating unit when it works. We happen to be in New York during a hot spill and we suffered through 5 sleepless nights before the unit was fixed for our last two nights. The beds were not comfortable for me. I'm not sure why? Just not very comfortable so I woke up with back achs. The bathrooms are very small and our toilet over flooded twice..yucks. The breakfast was continental. Okay but not extra ordinary. We never ate at the hotel restaurant so can't comment. Nice Indian food around the hotel area, both fast food and sit down dinning. The desk people were simply okay. Not extreamly helpfull and nice and not really unfriendly. Just there. I'm not sure why I was set on this hotel. The website is somewhat deceiving. I guess I wanted the small intimate hotel experience but on 2nd thought I would have been better off with the Sheraton NY at a better price. I know I would have at least eliminated the noise and bed discomfort, and yes, the toilet mess. Having said all that, we didn't let the many negatives upset us. We enjoyed our stay in New York enormously and laughed off our choice of Hotel. The toilet business was pushing it a bit.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Macy's and the Empire State Building are not far from the Hotel, nor is Soho or Times square. There is shopping on lower 5th Avenue as well as upper 5th Avenue. The prices are okay. Any merchandise under $110 was not taxed, so we saved some money there. My daughter loved SOHO and the shopping on Broadway there. We enjoyed the street vendors as the stores are pretty much the same here in San Francisco. We enjoyed Central Park and a carriage ride,Upper East and West side, Columbia and NYU. I do suggest booking shows ahead of time as you don't really save money by buying tickets at the source and just miss out on good seating.

Not all that, but not bad...

This hotel does not look at all like the pictures on the website. The room was tiny- barely any room to move in- and the curtains were full of dust. It was very, very stuffy and the air conditioning unit didn't help hardly at all. The bed was comfortable and the hot water plentiful with great water pressure, good bath products. If the room had been a bit bigger, and cleaner, it would have been great, as the location is perfect- subway accessible and great area to walk in. The fitness center is mediocre. The staff are pleasant.

I was skeptical, it was fantastic

I usually stay at 4 star hotels in NYC and get them using another value travel booking option. I had a hard time getting a good deal elsewhere so settled for this 3 star hotel. But the location was so perfect, the room was so clean, and breakfast was so good, I'd like to stay here every time I'm working in NY. The room was a four-star hotel room as long as you don't mind it a little bit small. And Little India is right around the corner, so dinner is cheap and delicious!

Very nice hotel!

Hotel is very comfortable and well located on 28th street and Lexington, very close to Grand Central. I had made reservation for a double and got a single when I arrived, but the problem was quickly solved by the staff. It comes with a very decent breakfast which is a plus in NY!
