Pod 51....

Didn't spend much time in the hotel, but I enjoyed it when there. Beds were comfortable and the personalized TV's were good. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and they did a good job cleaning. We saved money and decided to go with the shared bath. It was easy to understand the system, and there were no problems with quality and cleanliness. The only things I didn't like were the elevators, they were small, and you could hear noise from other floors, and people who were being very loud. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Great hotel, great location, and a bargain!

We were looking for a budget hotel for two friends sharing. We completely lucked out with this hotel! The bunk bed room was small but perfect - great stainless steel sink/mirror alcove/tissue and toilet roll holder unit. Each bed has it's own tv. The basic clothes hanging alcove had hangers plus top shelf and bottom shelf space. The 4 shower/ toilet rooms on each floor were all different for personal layout choice, kept really clean and stocked with free toilet roll, shower gel and shampoo. The rooms were cleaned and beds made every day. Location is easy to walk to a lot of sights or get the subway. Hotel bar was brilliant, plus breakfast/snack room in lobby. The street has many great sushi restaurants, a couple of good bars, and a great cafe around the corner and another one block over. Book it now!!

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Get a weeklong subway Metro card if you're going to be there most of a week - the subway is a short walk and brilliant for getting around the city. But download a map onto your phone!

Nice trip to New York

The hotel is in a great location. It's more for younger people. Room very small-hardly any room to walk around the bed. Bathroom extremely small. No washcloths provided. No remote for TV-we had to ask for one. Nice lobby area and eating choices at hotel. It was very noisy for us...you could hear people talking in rooms, toilets flushing, showers, street noises also. Staff very nice. We felt it was expensive for the bare minimum amenities and space. Not a place for families.

affordable pit stop

We stayed 5 nights in the pod, it is clean and comfortable. I probably would not stay for longer periods, as it requires being neat and organized to make the small space work. But for 5 days or so I'll go back again and again.

No frills but adequate

I was concerned about the community shower but it was just fine, better than what was available in the room/convenient to subway & many restaurants/I would return.

First time in a pod

The shared bathroom/shower was a concern but turns out it is a room that is one person at a time. It was clean and I enjoyed my stay.

Great for solo traveler

The Pod is a great place to stay if you're traveling solo & don't want to pay double occupancy Manhattan prices. They offer 3 (free) walking tours/week which is a great amenity to any hotel. The bar is a nice place to hang out before calling it a night & the cafe area for breakfast is a nice addition to just hang out in. There are tablets in the wall to use for quick reference. The rooftop area is relaxing as well. I had to share 2 bathrooms in the hall but I never had to wait. They do have rooms en suite but none were available by the time I booked. I will definitely stay here again. Different subway stops are conveniently located 2-3 blocks away.

There's an Essa bagel shop around the corner & across the street on the corner is a great place to grab take away. I noticed it on my last am - fresh fruit, eggs, pancakes.

All you need

Anyone visiting New York only needs a comfortable bed. Why pay excessive rates if you are going to be out all day and evening. Never dine in a hotel, half the fun is finding new restaurants. This hotel ticks all the boxes, why pay more for facilities you don't need?

You get what you pay for

For the area, this place is really cheap, and is basically in between a hostel and a normal hotel. I got a private room without my own bathroom, although it did have a sink. The room was super small, no desk or chair or anything, just a bed, small sink, and a TV in the wall that only partially worked (remote control worked about 50% of the time, the engineer came by with a box of 5 of them and none of them worked even with new batteries, but eventually it started working occasionally). There is a strong perfume smell in the lobby, super slow elevators, and slow wireless, but the bed was comfortable, the A/C worked more or less (full blast or off only, but it cooled the room), and the room was quiet. Next time I'm in town I'll look for somewhere else to stay, but this was OK in the end.
