room with a view
park view in spring/summer/fall is brighter than winter. winter was still good. stay at hotel twice in two weeks....the city view ( cheaper) room and bed quality were both very good. the park view rooms were larger and calming view. The breakfast though nothing special was very nicely handled by a nice collection of distinctive experienced waiters. I was recuperating/resting while there...the beds were very very nice.

Value, Location Can't beat it
Staying on Central Park has become a room only for the very wealthy these days. Here is a chance to stay at an icon of a hotel at a reasonable price. Yes, she is a bit worn but her bones are wonderful and she is old New York at it's best with a view of Central Park that is unsurpassed. You can truly spend lots of time in your room and get the perfect New York experience.

This is a decent hotel. However, the facilities are rather outdated.

Fantastic location, great staff, great special rate
I was pleasantly surprised when we found this hotel for the special price we got, especially since our dates were December 29th and 30th. If it were not for this special rate, this hotel would have been out of our price range. The location was amazing (right across from Central Park on Central Park South), the staff was friendly and the room was very nice. If I had to find something wrong with this hotel, I'd say it was a little dated but that did not bother us at all since the room was clean and very well-maintained.

Good location, but but bad for customer service
I arrived with my wife and two sons just before Christmas, having booked rooms with two twin beds back in May. On arrival I was told that twin bedded rooms were not available, and our sons would have to accept an 'upgraded room' with free wifi, cocktails, etc.Highly unacceptable. The spectacular view of Central Park from the Dining room was spoilt by the off-hand 'busy' waiters at breakfast. Otherwise great location. Helpful doorman.

Nice well located hotel
Nice old style hotel in a good location. The staff was helpful and the room pretty good for the price. Although the "city view" was just some alley.

Great Weekend Trip
The location on the south end of the park was fantastic. We had a room overlooking the park which was even better. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room itself was large for NYC and was clean.

Ok but expecting more
There wasn't anything really bad with this hotel... BUT I was expecting more. The location was great -- right across from Central Park which we loved. However, the staff wasn't that helpful and maids rang the doorbell at 8:30 to come in and clean both days we were there (we didn't see any DO NOT DISTURB sign to put out). I wouldn't discourage someone from going there but next time I come to New York, I'll probably try some place new.

NYC girl's weekend
Room was perfect size. Hard to find in NYC. Common areas were gorgeous. Room needs to be remodeled but the view of Central Park more than made up for it. When booking it said it was a newly remodeled room which it wasn't and that it included continental breakfast which we didn't get. Other than that I can't complain.

Worst trip ever
We called ahead to confirm a late arrival and were told all was well. When we called again, late, to confirm, we were again reassured that our room was ready. When we arrived, quite late, we were met with a suprised night clerk who told us we had no room due to a mechanical difficulty and we were being re-routed to another hotel several blocks away. The clerk was very cold and unhelpful. We could not believe that we had not been informed when we called prior to going to the hotel, just a couple hours earlier. We will definitely NOT consider using this hotel again.
