Cost Effective
The Lucerne is a cost effective hotel in New York city. Not overly endowered with amenities, it provides all you need at a good price. We don't spend much time in our room or need much to accommodate us well. The staff are friendly and efficient,. The Nice Matin restaurant is very good -- and well priced.

Rooms were Good. Restroom was more like Comfort Inn. I have seen cheaper hotels with better bath accessories. Bathroom had no exhaust fan / open-able windows.

Just what I needed
I used to live on the Upper West Side and had busineses to do in the area. I had always stayed with friends so this was the first time I stayed in a hotel. The Lucerne was completely comfortable and easy. THe room was clean and recently modernized. If I had been with my husband, it would have been a bit small but for me it was perfect. There are good restaurants in the neighborhood now- Love Vai- and eating breadfast at Nice Matin was terriric.

Wonderful Week End
From check in to check out I was pleasantly surprised by this lovely gem of a hotel. Courteous, friendly staff checked us in early. We selected a quiet room which was beautifully decorated and had a large closet and an ample bathroom with sparkling clean fixtures and tile. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the location of the room provided us a good night's sleep, with no street noise to be heard. We enjoyed brunch at Nice Matin, the attached restaurant. Great neighborhood with subway around the corner.

Great pre-wedding stay
I stayed at the Lucerne for 3 nights before my wedding. The room was spacious, comfortable, well-designed and just what I needed. The location was excellent. Free drinks for guests in the lobby one afternoon was a nice touch. No additional lounges or separate bar from the adjoining public restaurant, but that didn't really matter. One major problem which needs urgent action by the management was my plastic card room key was turned off in error by the hotel when I popped out to get ice from the machine so I was stranded outside the room an hour before my wedding. The reception staff refused to let me back in the room without ID, which was of course locked in the room, even though they acknowledged it was the hotel's mistake. I would have missed my wedding had I not miraculously been able to get hold of my passport. Staff were unsympathetic and hostile. An unacceptable blot on an otherwise excellent hotel, needing urgent attention by the management/owner .

Perfect NYC getaway
Lovely, clean, great location. Staff was attentive. Room was average size, very clean, and recently renovated. Our trip was a getaway weekend for two middle-aged businesswomen and our teen-age daughters. Wonderful location, close to Central Park. Very safe, even late at night. Subway is around the corner. Restaurant next to hotel was good, but overpriced. Definitely would stay at the Lucerne again.

Good location, very friendly staff, pricey though
We stayed here during the Thanksgiving\Christmas season on weekend, which may account for the somewhat steep price of $480.00 a night. We reserved a premium room. Not sure what the premium was. No view, other than the outside wall of another section of the hotel. Bathroom is cramped and outdated. No centrol heat or A/C. So the room was cold when we first got there and we could never warm up the bathroom floor which was always ice cold. But, heck, it's an old building in NewYork. So, it's not going to have the amenties that most newer properties consider standard. It sis have free wi-fi though!
