Pleasant surprise

From [...] at the front desk to the door staff everyone was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and attractive and the public space more than I expected for a Marriott. Loved the location close to Market Square for outdoor breakfast or coffee, theatre, and shopping. I will return to this new Pittsburgh find.

Beautiful and spacious

Absolutely gorgeous hotel with easy access to the convention center and parking. Prices were a bit steep at the restaurant and for the mini bar, but the accommodations were lovely and spacious. Internet access was very speedy. Only complaint was the bed was a little firmer than I care for, and the pillows were a bit odd, though I have no idea how to describe them. Overall I was very happy and would stay there again.

Pretentious!

This hotel is very pretentious, despite being an average hotel - they apparently cater to a "discerning traveler". The "common" areas, like lobby and hallways, are very nice, but the rooms themselves were small. The beds were tiny. To me, I don't care if the lobby is grand or if the hallways are really nice. I dont spend my time there. I spend my time in my room - which was on the small side. The walls are very thin and you can hear some sounds from the adjacent rooms. You can definitely hear doors slam shut and people walking in the hallways. I found this hotel disappointing. It looked nice, but that's all the merit - it just LOOKS nice. Its not NICE to be there. I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone travelling to Pittsburgh. Also, the staff wasn't forthcoming on places to park a car - they kept trying to push the valet service. Valet service isn't a big attraction to me - I hate waiting for my car or calling ahead.

Great staff...very nice although pricey.

The Renaissance is a wonderful Hotel...beds are fantastic, very clean and great location and staff. My only critique is that the rooms aren't really priced appropriately...for a small room with a view of only the other side of the hotel I paid almost $250 a night. There should be a greater discount relative to such a non-existent view. But a very nice luxury hotel regardless of that.

Great location for downtpwn

We were upgraded to concierge level but it was only open from Sun. evening through Fri morning. Other hotels we have stayed at on the concierge or club level were open at all times. Also there was a charge for any alcohol on the level that we have never had before staying at the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons.

Don't eat at Sonoma, the Marriott wine bar/grill down the street. The staff was eager and efficient, but the food was not up to snuff, especially for the price.
