Our main reason for visiting Scranton was Steamtown, a National Historic Site dedicated to the history of the region's railroading & mining industries. It was inexpensive and quite well done. Even apart from the rides on the trains, the exhibits were informative and lively! I'm not quite the railroad buff that my husband and son are, but if history and/or technology interest you at all, this place is worth a visit. It's run by the National Park Service. And we took two train rides that both happened to be using steam locomotives, so of course, that was the best! Don't wear delicate clothes, though - steam engines create soot, which definitely gets onto the passengers.
