Great location to Strand Theater, two blocks away.

This is a beautiful, old hotel whose heyday was decades ago, but despite that, the owners try to keep it up with pretty ambience and decor. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious with 2 queen beds and a sofa/sitting area splitting the room in half. The hotel main dining room was very quiet at 7 PM on a Saturday night, (only two tables filled,) which tells you the locals are dining elsewhere.

Book it if you want to attend an event at the Strand Theater nearby, and don't want to drive back to a hotel late at night.

disappointing

Our previous stay at the Yorktowne was wonderful. This time however, we stayed in the stepchild's room. The wallpaper was separating at the seams. The carpet was old and needed to be cleaned. The layout of the room was odd. It was a disappointing contrast to our previous stay.

Very nice people

The staff was great, but Valet parker crashed my car causing 2,000 dollars in damage. The hotel paid for everything, but it was a hassel.

Friendly Staff

I have stayed at this hotel during my working years and enjoyed each stay. This room, however, seemed smaller than rooms that I have stayed in before. The staff is always courteous and the hotel is quiet. The bathroom was somewhat small and appeared to need some updating.

Old World Charm w/ nice customer service

The Yoktown is a nice old hotel with lots of charm and friendly, helpful employees. The 8th floor room was nice, with a beautiful view of a lovely downtown church. Although the hotel could use some updating, it was plenty comfortable with all of the necessary ammenities. The location is great - close to lots of things to do in a nice park of downtown York.

Lovely historic hotel

The Yorktowne Hotel is a very nice old hotel in heart of the downtown area. The room was large and well appointed, although the bathroom was bit small. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. We ate dinner at the bar/restaurant and the food was excellent. As long as you go in realizing that the Yorktown is a stylish historic hotel (not a generic chain), you should have a great stay.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

Check out the York market only a couple blocks from the hotel. Very nice old style indoor market with dozens of vendors featuring lots of homemade goodies.
