The accomodations were great, the location couldn't get any better and the staff excellent. Including wine and cheese in the court yard made a relaxing enviorment to meet with other guests. The only complaint is having to pay for parking, $20 for the day. Should have a discount for people staying at the Elliot House Inn.

Had [...]confirmation for 2 rooms, each with king bed. Both rooms given contained 2 queen beds. Hotel first said it was [...] fault but when this was verified as incorrect, they blamed it on Best Western 800 number that [...]reserved with. Hard to understand how they felt no obligation of fault. I provided documentation of king bed booking but they simply stated they did not have any available nor would make any pricing adjustment. They stated I should be happier with the 2 beds as the room was larger that my confirmed room. In addition the rooms were not cleaned until after 6 PM one evening. Rest of hotel was fine but management did not seem the least concerned about my reservation details.

We enjoyed our time while staying at the Vendue Inn. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was very friendly. We overlooked the construction and that we had to walk up to the third floor (from the 2nd) and take the elevator down to the 1st floor and just the opposite comming back. The Sherry was a nice surprise also. My wife dosen't usually drink but I think she found it to her liking.

Since we had to park across the street we did have to carry our luggage up a short flight of stairs from the lobby, but this was only a minor inconvenience. The room was clean and nicely appointed. The buffet breakfast although not free was a welcome convenience and was served in sunny, pleasant, indoor/outdoor surroundings. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was great. I would definitely stay again.

Spent a weekend in November 2011 at this hotel. Staff and amenities were wonderful. Views out the harbor side deck are just great, right on the water. Pool is in a private alcove, not carved out of the parking lot. Only thing to be aware of, it is not where you can walk to mid town Charleston. Short drive, but the hwy is in the way for walking. Plan to drive into the downtown. But for an end of the day relaxing place to end up - this hotel is perfect!

If you're booking through online, but still want your hotel chain rewards points, you'll have to do it when you get home; the staff couldn't or wouldn't do it. Kings Courtyard Inn is located at 198 King Street, in the heart of Charleston's historic district. In the late 1600's and early 1700's, King Street was the main "trail" leading into old Charles Towne. During the past three centuries, this quaint thoroughfare of small shops and charming homes has delighted and intrigued Charlestonians and visitors alike. The Inn maintains the residential atmosphere of lower King Street, and extreme care has been taken to ensure the necessary architectural and historic accuracy for which Charleston is famous. This hotel had a great location. Near several restaurants and right next to the water. It had a great bed and breakfast feel without the price! We stayed for our wedding anniversary and were greeted with a smile. Very charming with solid wood doors, molding, wrapping staircase. Wine and cheese served at 5pm in the drawing room. Breakfast from 7-9am that included home made biscuits. Within walking distance of several ghost tours, wine tastings, open-air market, waterfront. Perfect!

Beautiful Hotel, Great Location

  • Don
  • 17 Jan 2011
The staff accommodated my early check in without missing a beat, and they were very responsive to any questions I had during my stay. While there wasn't a lot of extra space, the room was fairly well appointed with a couple of sitting chairs and a very comfortable queen-sized bed. I had one of the rooms without an exterior-facing window, but that wasn't at all bothersome to me. Housekeeping came around in the evening to offer ice and turn-down service, which I appreciated, but declined. I also didn't take advantage of the complimentary hot continental breakfast, evening wine and cheese reception, or evening sherry nightcaps, but it was great that they were offered. The only things I would have changed were (1) free wireless Internet access (only available via cabled connection) and (2) in-room coffee maker.

Easy Going

Well positioned in the heart of the French Quarter, pleasant walk in any direction to splendid assortment of places to eat/drink etc. Price very reasonable for downtown high-tourist-traffic area. Staff friendly, helpful, gave me late check-out and free bike parking. Building has charm and aura of genteel Old South. Safe at night, quiet, clean.

Christmas in Charleston

  • Wish we were there
  • 3 Jan 2012
We really enjoyed our stay! The rooms/bed were comfortable and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for enjoying historic Charleston. The dining experience could have been improved as the rooftop breakfast was too cold to be enjoyed and the 2nd floor alternative was outside of guest rooms which was not optimal. The breakfasts were not as good as other B and Bs. But, the free access to EcoFitness and Blue Turtle Yoga was awesome!

Great location, but not a lot of site options

Location is great! Nice lay-out. No onsite options - restuarants, fitness room, etc. However, it's okay since as soon as you step out of the door, there are a multitude of recreational and dining options.

Right in the Middle of it All

  • TravelingFam

My husband and I and my parents stayed at the Church Street Inn for a weekend trip to Charleston. The property is located right in the middle of all the action. Our room overlooked the Market and had a kitchenette, living room with a pull out sofa bed, 1.5 baths and an upstairs bedroom. There was a nice courtyard where you could relax in the shade. The only downfall is that it could use a little upgrading and it is actually a time-share. I have been getting phone calls from them about staying in their other properties in other cities.

I wouldn't mind living there. The suite has everything you need. My only minor issue was that I could hear people walking in the suite above. Try to get a room on the third floor.

The inn is very charming and in a fantastic location in downtown Charleston. You can walk to every restaurant and attraction so no need for a car! The staff was friendly and the room decor overall was very quaint. The complimentary breakfast and happy hour each day was also a very nice touch for guests. Great value; would definately stay there again!

We wanted a place in "The Heart of Historic Charleston" and Fulton Inn fit the bill; Broad St., East Bay, The Market, C of C and King St shopping all very easy. It is not a new modern facilty but it was very comfortable and charming. Continentel breakfast was average but delivered each morning with a big smile. The wine reception at 5 o'clock was vintage old south. Parking is a slight challenge if you have an SUV but you can walk to anything you need. Can't wait to visit again.

Great value in downtown Charleston

  • Mayh
  • 16 Apr 2012
Nicely furnished two bedroom, two bath appartment with a well equiped kitchen and a small living area. Only small windows, no view but quiet and a great location. Only draw back: you need to know how you get in. We stood in front of locked doors trying to figure out how to get in. After 20 minutes, a young lady happened to come by and taped a note with a phone number to the door. This was how we found out that we had to call to get the code for the lock box with the appartment key.

Perfect for exactly what it is, not what it is not.

The Society House is a great place to stay for an independent traveler. I've stayed here twice and plan to stay again when in Charleston. It is what it is. It's not what it's not. Here's what to expect: What Society House is: A very spacious, well kept apartment with nice furniture/finishes and basic products (Shampoo, towels, glasses etc). A full kitchen and living room area, dining area, large bedrooms with closets, large bathrooms and a TON of space for not a ton of money. The location is great (right on King - walking distance to shops, restaurants, hotels, fitness centers - EVERYTHING!). Apartment dwellers will feel very comfortable here. You have everything you need right outside of your very own apartment. What Society House is not: A full service hotel. There is no front desk. No bar. No restaurant. No room service. Keys are kept in a lock box outside and you come and go as you please. There is an emergency number to call and help is available if you need it (I've never actually needed help while here). I recommend staying here if you are going to Charleston with plans in place or if you are comfortable exploring/asking around (everyone in Charleston is super nice). If you are looking for hospitality within the walls of your hotel, this is not for you.

I had an excellent stay in the Planter's Inn. The decor was beautiful, creating an elegant but comfortable atmosphere. Loved the pumpkin pine floors and real antiques in the reception area. Staff was attentive. Peninsula Grill was a top notch restaurant - loved the pork chops and collards and the coconut cake! . . . . Only missing amenities were workout and wet area, but not enough of a negative to keep me away on future visits. I will be back.

The hotel as well as the location around it was great. The central location of the hotel in the French Quarter means that most everything you could want to do or see is within walking distance. You can drive around if you wish but the streets of Charleston are very narrow and on street parking is limited. I also found the local prices for things to be quite fair and not what one would expect in a resort destination.

The location is top notch - you can eat fantastic food in the hotel or walk within the block for some of the best and most famous food in the city (SNOBS, Blossom, Cypress, High Cotton, Magnolia, and so many more!) Description
John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution, built his home in 1763. Now exquisitely restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive - and the only one to now accommodate overnight hotel guests. History records that George Washington called here in 1791. An entry in his diary shows a breakfast with Mrs. Rutledge. A loving rejuvenation has restored the beautiful details of the home's 18th and 19th century architecture: the elaborately carved Italian marble fireplaces, the original plaster moldings, the inlaid floors and the graceful ironwork. The John Rutledge House Inn® offers nineteen guest rooms within a complex of three buildings. Antiques and historically accurate reproductions give each room its own warmth and distinction. John Rutledge House Inn is proud to be a founding hotel in Historic Hotels of America, as well as Select Registry - Distinguished Inns of America and Classic Inns of the South.
