I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The location was perfect and not too far away from anything. The staff was very helpful and nice. And the price wasn't too bad either. The only thing that wasn't really up to par was the pool. It was sorta dirty and had a weird smell but other than that my stay was wonderful.

Great Family vacation

  • 9 Jul 2011
For a resort, there aren't a lot of amenities, but the location is just a short walk (down hill) to the Gatlinburg main strip. Yes that means it is uphill on the way back. Comments about the walls being a bit thin are accurate, but we weren't in the room enough for it to be too distracting. They did a trash run or something at 5 am every day that woke us up. The undergrouns parking was appreciated so that the car wasn't being backed in the July sun.

We enjoyed our stay

  • 19 Jul 2010
We were too busy to get to the pools available. Location close to main Gatlinburg strip. Hard to exit onto road, no line of sight vision of traffic due to situation on curve. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Old Panasonic tube TV's in rooms, poor audio and cable choices. Wi-Fi gated and slow, forced banner ads in browser. While we enjoyed our stay and room(s), will try other location next time.

Walls are too thin!

  • Sleepy in Gatlinburg
  • 13 Mar 2012
I had a nice experience at check in with the staff and was placed right next to a room with a screaming baby. The staff quickly moved me to a nicer room, where I had a peaceful stay on the first night. The second night was just as bad as the first room on the first night...there were two or three young kids who stayed up past midnight and were up too early. The walls are too thin...I know it's an older hotel and it was packed. The rates were nice...but I didn't rest, like I had hoped. If there are things that you can do to help guests out who need to sleep with the noise reduction I would gladly change my ranking. The staff was nice and the rooms were fairly clean. But the room comfort was almost unacceptable. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

My wife an I stopped in Gatlinburg for one night on our way to Nashville after spending a day in the GSM National Park. The check-in was fast, friendly and helpful (we were informed about the free bkfast, places to eat near by...). The overall appeareance of the hotel was very clean. Our room was spotless - the bath room gleamed - the carpet looked brand new. The mini microwave and frig were unexpected and really came in handy. The breakfast, although not gourmet and limited in varity, was very convenient, fresh and a great time saver. In this price range, I would say the Clarion is a great value.

Hard Rock Cafe and The Atrium Pancake House were both very close and great places to eat. Room was very clean and affordable.

I have stayed in Gatlinburg many times in my life and Rivers Edge is about as good a value as you will find. The hotel has age is average in about every way but it is also clean and in good repair. It's location is average (located behind Ober Gatlinburg) but most local attractions and restaurants are within walking distance. The room doors face outside and the balconies face the pool and River Road. TV was old but worked well; beds were comfy; bathrooms were average. Rivers Edge makes a Smokey Mountain vacation very affordable!

Just ok

  • Janie
  • 22 Apr 2010
The rooms are very, very cramped. The place seems really dated. The way that the rooms are connected can make them very noisy if your neighbors slam their doors. The indoor pool is pretty small. The beds and pillows are the most uncomfortable that I have ever slept on in a hotel - and I am not a picky person about beds and pillows. Rooms were clean and decent location for getting around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Good location for park visit

  • 24 Jul 2011
This is a great location if you want to spend time in the National Park. It was fine for the father/son trip that we were on, but probably wouldn't have been good for the girls in our family. Breakfast is two kinds of cereal, waffles, and Krispy Kreme donuts.

Pretty good

Overall it was a good place to stay. The location is great, right as you get into town. It's just really difficult to turn left onto the parkway when leaving. The room was pretty clean, not the classiest place but great for the price we paid. We could hear the tennants in the adjacent room at times but the tv tuned most of that out. Average complimentary breakfast. I love that it is a pet friendly hotel.

Great combo of close to downtown, but off the beaten path

  • Travelstoooften
  • 24 Apr 2012
The condo complex when reached by car is nestled back away from the main roads. However, there is a set of stairs out the backdoor that get you to the downtown area by foot in about 10 minutes. Typical hotel/condo room with a nice front room and small kitchen and bath, with a small to mid-size bedroom. The staff was very responsive, although on duty only 9-5.

horrible place

  • amy
  • 28 May 2007
This place was a nightmare!! The first room we were given was absolutely filthy, mold on the walls and paint peeling in the bathroom and the tub. There were 6-8 people in the next room with several cases of beer. We asked for another room and found the same filthy conditions in this room also. We may have spent 2 minutes in each room before we decided this was not the place for us. We spent the next 4 hours trying to find another motel with no luck. We finally gave up and came home which was a 4 hour drive. This was horrible

I had stayed at this hotel back in the mid-70's and decided to try it again for an overnight. I was pleased to find that the hotel has been well maintained and still is a delightful place to stay. An added bonus was that a piano player from the Smokey Mountain Jubliee was staying there the same night and entertained us with his music.

Relaxing vacation.

  • Traveling Charlie
  • 22 Apr 2012
Our room had a patio overlooking the fast moving creek. It was very pretty and relaxing. It also had a fireplace, that we did not need or use this time of year. It had just been taken over by new owner who was very nice and helpful. They were still working on getting wifi but it did work in parts of the resort. Location was convenient. A big plus for us was that it was pet friendly. We would certainly stay there again.
