Best Stay in Tennessee Yet!
We were on our way to Alabama and being Alabama fans, we were hesitant to stay in TN. (They can be pretty hateful towards Bama fans.) The only reason we didn't give a better rating for location is because we thought it was much closer to 81 then it actually was. The room was clean, the staff was so friendly, the value of the room was amazing. They must have renovated recently because the TV was a nice flat screen, the room was modern. The room came with free wi-fi, so that was nice. The front desk even gave me a hair dryer in the morning. And even though it was kind of far from the highway, it may just be our new half way stop on our trips from VA to AL. We for sure enjoyed our stay.

First Time in Johnson City, TN
It was easy to find this small hotel. And I was happy to see that it was located close to restaurants and shops. Target Store was within walking distance as was the Shoney's Restaurant. The room is plain but clean and bed was comfortable. It was an easy drive to East Tennessee State University campus. I would definitely use this hotel for my next stay in Johnson City.

I used Google Maps to find my way to the hotel and university campus. Directions were accurate and signs are fairly easy to locate. Johnson City is very easy to navigate around.

a lovely surprise--once again
I'd had a great stay at this motel about a month ago, so I chose it again the next time I was in Johnson City -- and my stay was just as pleasant. Super friendly and helpful desk clerks (evening AND morning), clean, comfortable accommodation, quiet clientele and neighborhood, easy to find.

a lovely surprise
I haven't stayed at a Red Roof Inn in quite awhile, but was very pleasantly surprised by my experience at this one. The room was fresh and clean and well-maintained, the bed was comfortable, with a selection of 4 pillows of different firmness to choose from (the bedding was styled like much pricier motels/hotels), and the room included a fridge, microwave, and small safe, as well as a well-designed work station and an excellent ergonomic desk chair. I was only distantly aware of traffic outside, and slept very well.

Nice Budget Hotel
This hotel was nice and clean with a microwave and fridge in the room. It's just across the parking lot from a Target and TJMaxx and down the block from several restaurants and a mall. We stayed here to go to the ETSU Gray Fossil - definitely worth the trip. The museum is on a dig site where paleontologists and students are currently excavating fossils from the miocene period. They have interactive exhibits inside the museum and you can observe, and even participate a little, in the dig outside. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was a half day well spent.

Pleasantly surprised
This was an overnight stop in the middle of a trip, so I wasn't expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The room was inexpensive a little sparce but very clean. The beds were comfortable and the staff was unbelievably accomodating. They have free WiFi and and a large walking area with clean up bags for my dogs. The other surprise was the location. It was walking distance to eating places and there was a Target across the parking lot. This was great because my GPS had crashed and I needed to purchase another one to make the rest of the trip less complicated.

hotel stay
The hotel exterior was clean, well-lite. On both sides of the building people were standing outside drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. On my floor spanish-speaking men were standing at both ends of the walkway and when I walked by one seemed to signal to the other. I was hesitant to enter my room when he started to follow us. I stopped and then they stopped. I made it clear by my demeanor that I was aware of their presence and did not enter until they began to move away. The men stayed outside drinking beer and smoking. They awoke me at 0345 the next morning loudly talking followed by others talking and idling trucks until 0600. I notified the management in writing. I also called the front desk and told them the heat did not work well with 1/2 blowers out. Additionally, upon departure I was told they didn't issue receipts. [...]

Good Location
It was a typical red roof inn. I just needed a place to stay and it was good enough. I liked its location. It's close to some eating places and stores.
