Wake up to a spectacular Galveston beachfront view of the Gulf of Mexico. Sip coffee on your own private balcony overlooking Galveston Island's famous Seawall. Take a dip in our sparkling pool. Stroll the beach for a shell or two. Bike through Galveston's historic neighborhoods nearby. The Commodore on the Beach is in the heart of Galveston Island's ambience, right on the waterfront at 37th and Seawall Boulevard (Longitude 95 degrees West, Latitude 29.2 degrees North). That beachfront corner is the Island's midsection ? to the east are Stewart Beach and Galveston's restored architectural treasures and museums; an equal distance to the west are the world-class attractions of Moody Gardens. The Strand Historical District and the Post office Street art galleries are even closer. It's as if the Commodore's builders said, "OK, here are all the fun things to do on Galveston Island, now where can we put a hotel to be closest to all of it?" Of course, they couldn't have known about the food. Today, The Commodore on the Beach finds itself surrounded by the great restaurants that make Galveston so delicious. Gaido's, Casey's, Joe's Crab Shack, The Rainforest Caf, Landry's and Salsa's Seaside Cantina are within walking distance, and more are on the way. And now, in addition to our traditional Galveston beachfront hotel, we offer the option of renting a guest house. Commodore HomeStyle is a unique collection of cottages located conveniently throughout the Island, where you experience Galveston as the natives do. You can choose a property near Stewart Beach and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, or choose one closer to the hotel. All are convenient walking distance to the beach. For more information, click the "HomeStyle" button to the right. Vacationers who choose The Commodore know from the moment of check-in that we want them to have fond memories of their visit to Galveston. The staff is happy to share our local knowledge - from the best bike rental deal

Decent Price for the location and the weekend

Clean room and helpful staff. Normally the price for this hotel is not this high. Mardi Gras weekend though probably explains the reason for the elevated pricing. Cookies and milk before bed and continential breakfast made it a better deal!!!!

Best Vacation we ever had!

I was a little leery when booking, but when we arrived, all worries were left at the door. The view was spectacular, easy to get to the beach and the opportunity to eat was everywhere! Moody Gardens and Schlitterbauhn were only 10 minutes away. The front desk was pleasant and happy to help. Well organized and always clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone just wanting to get away or for a family vacation. The only thing missing is the coffee maker and a fridge in every room. That would have made it perfect!!

If you are buying tickets to Schlitterbauhn, go to their website and download the ticket from yours or the hotels computer. You can save about $10.00 ea. They have specials w/cup and towels w/purchase. Well worth it!

Commodore on the Beach

I love the view of the gulf and of the seawall. [...] The hotel room has a nice view but the A/C did not work very well. The room was tolerable, but was not cool from the hot weather outside. I doubt that we will book there again because the the A/C.

Never Again

This hotel had paper thin walls. We were without children but heard every child staying at the hotel. View was good but being above the pool when out on the balcony all you heard was the children yelling in the pool.

Great Value Perfect Views

The rooms are very basic. Not much in the way of premium cable, internet etc. What they are is clean with great views from small but private balconies. It was wonderful to sit on the balcony in the evening and watch the pelicans fly over in formation. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable. They always have coffee made but bring your own cup as theirs seem to have come from a doll house. That was the only thing I didn't like though so I'll be back.

Gaido's right next door is great. If you go to the Strand/Pier area, try Mosquito Cafe and Olympia the Grill. Avoid The Dutch Kettle on the Commodore's grounds though. For shopping on the Strand, don't miss the Hendley Market. I went in with my wife expecting to be bored but actually enjoyed myself. To call their stock unique would be a gross understatement.
