Sundance exists because of one man's love of nature and of the arts. The nature is astonishing, the arts are communal, and the resort itself stands at the base of Utah's 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos without infringing upon its landscape. You'll find Sundance tucked away in Provo Canyon, a one-hour drive south of Salt Lake City International Airport. Watch the moon climb over Mt. Timpanogos from your cottage patio, or enjoy a fireside dinner with newfound friends in a mountain home, and you'll begin to appreciate what Sundance is all about. To understand what's here, you need to spend time in the beautiful spaces inside the rustic exterior of the cottage community, just as you must spend time on the trails and slopes of the mountain to fully experience this wilderness preserve. Surrounding Sundance Resort is a fragile, mountain wilderness environment of unique beauty. There are thousands of species of plants and animals, the most ancient residents of the canyon. To coexist peaceably with such an environment requires an environmental policy of the kind that began at Sundance in 1969, when Robert Redford purchased thousands of acres with a desire to preserve the natural splendor of the area and to develop a small, sustainable community for nature and the arts.
