Lovely hotel for any age

We stayed 8 days here and enjoyed every aspect of the hotel, in particular the staff. Because the weather was so bad, we did not get to Halong Bay or Sapa, thus the comfort and pleasantness of the hotel and its people made up for that disappointment. (Mostly!) No question went unanswered by the concierge. The hotel is of such historic significance, tours are offered 3 times daily and include a visit to the underground bomb shelter recently discovered. The several restaurants offer menus with a wide variety of prices. While room rates do not include breakfast, the pastry shop inside the hotel is certainly adequate and inexpensive for a light breakfast. Taxi fares to the Old Quarter are about $1.50, and to other popular areas not more than $2.50. Today I am visiting the Hoa Binh (Peace) Humanitarian Village. It is a specialist school and medical center providing a home to 150 child victims of Agent Orange and Dioxin poisoning. The hotel has an annual Christmas party for them.

Cream of the crop

Felt like a King! Warm welcome, but importantly, a fantastic room. Didn't have time to use most of the amenities, but the pool area bar was a great reprieve from the busy city.

Good but too stuffy for me

Nice but seemed like a quaint place in Europe rather than an expensive place in Vietnam. If I did it again I'd pay less for a mid-range hotel to get more of a Vietnam flare with fewer snooty people hanging out. I had a problem with a price qu0ote due to poor English and they refused to give me my money back (but did comp breakfast).

Hanoi's colonial era hotel

We stayed in the older wing. Rooms were renovated with nice woodwork & new bathrooms worked in. This left them a bit small but they retained their 11' ceilings. Things were as you would expect, expensive but good.

My review of Sofitel Metropole Hanoi

This is a very nice hotel with attentive, couteous staff. However it was undergoing construction work which made it a bit noisy at certain times. In the middle of our stay a problemapparently developed with the electricity in our room and we were moved to another. Although this second room was in the old section and represented an upgrade it was generally less comfortable than the first.

A Great Hotel

The Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi is one of the world's great hotels. It is of historic importance and run with the elegance that you would associate with a luxury hotel. Its facilities are first rate and the service could not be better. For a hotel like the Metropole in New York or Paris, you would pay three times as much. It is worth every penny.

Classic Colonial Hotel

This property is the finest hotel in Hanoi. The location is fantastic and the staff look after your every need. Small treats around the pool just arrive, like fresh fruit skewers or smoothie shots. We stayed in both wings on two different stays. The classic rooms are larger and older but have such a great feel. The Opera wing is new and the rooms are beautifully modern, the entrance is a side door. The pool is great and the Bamboo Lounge is perfect for people watching. I would stay only at this hotel when returning to Hanoi even though they had renovation construction next to the pool all day and lost power or 24 hours, that is how much I loved the place. The construction should be done by the end of June and the power was a fluke.
