How many free family activities can you cram into a short break in Miami and what are they? There are many things to do that won’t break the bank including attending art galleries, sightseeing at the beach but we especially enjoyed CocoWalk Mall – Honey loved the children’s day, it was all free of charge and the weather was great. I’d also advise people to speak to the concierge at the hotel and look in free guide books etc as most have discounts to popular attractions and eateries which we found very useful. When you’re on the look-out for freebies you’ll be amazed at what you find!

If you were to do one thing again over your holiday what would it be? Definitely the dolphins! It was a once in a life-time experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it. While $99 seemed quite steep, when you consider the amount of time we spent at the park and what we did there, it was actually very worthwhile!

What would you advise travellers planning to go to Miami to be careful of in extra costs? The most expensive thing I found in Miami was the taxi fares, we tried to stay local as much as possible which really made the difference. If you do want to explore, you can walk to most places or catch a local bus. And if you’re there for a long time and want to do some more exploring, you can always hire a car.

What is Miami airport like and are the duty free goods worth buying? Miami airport is not too good to hang around in, the shops are few and far between and the food choices were pretty dire – fast food and duty free were all that was on offer. Duty free was ok – the usual drinks etc but we didn’t go too mad to be honest as we were low on cash!

If you could pass on one top tip to other travellers going to Miami, what would it be? Ask the hotel concierge if there are any special offers that the hotel have coupons for and check local listings magazine – we were able to get a 15% discount on the duck tour around Miami from cutting out vouchers from a local magazine.

What are Miami’s restaurants like? The Market Place Restaurant is somewhere I would definitely recommend, it was very cool indeed with red leather sofas aligning the streets, a great menu and very friendly staff. The prices were average but the food was so lovely that we didn’t mind. As Honey and I had been to the US before we always to remember to order either a starter each or a main meal between both of us as the portions are so huge. I would also say if you are looking for atmosphere ‘Monty’s’ is the place to go, although the food wasn’t great it is right by the bay and you are able to sit outdoors and enjoy live music. It’s a great place for kids to run around and eat fun food for kids and a varied range of seafood for adults.

When booking accommodation are there any ‘cheaper’ alternatives that you can offer that you think helped you to keep your costs down? I always feel that if the room is clean and you have a bed then that is all you need on holiday as most of the time you’re out exploring what the place has to offer. Our hotel was nice and comfortable and we cut costs by buying snacks and juice from the grocery stores.
