Get to know Istanbul, the jewel in Turkey’s crown!

If you’re like me and you like your cities overflowing with history, atmosphere and beautiful buildings, you could do a lot worse than book a weekend in Istanbul. I like to use my hotel in Istanbul as a base from which to explore the entrancing ancient churches, mosques and synagogues the city has to offer, and that’s to say nothing of the museums! So for all you culture addicts out there, a holiday in Istanbul will be right up your street.

Istanbul

See Istanbul’s sublime Hagia Sophia

The Hagia Sophia is Istanbul’s most famous monument for a reason. It’s got a fascinating history: it began as a cathedral, then became a mosque, and is now a museum, and one you should definitely visit. Inside, you’ll see the most breathtaking mosaics, and from outside you can see its famous dome.

This is a standout site in a city that’s bursting with monuments and must-sees. Read our travel guide to Istanbul to learn more about them. While you’re in town you should also go to Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque, and make sure you wander the streets of the historical district.

Where to stay in Istanbul

If you decide to stay at the Eresin Crown Hotel, you’ll be right in the heart of the historical district, and what’s more it’s got a view out to the Sea of Marmara. This hotel is the height of luxury, and nothing’s too much trouble for the attentive staff.

The Gulhane Park Hotel is also walking distance from all the sites you’ll want to visit, and a bargain, too. This place has all the mod cons you’ll need to make your stay a comfortable one.

Book a mini-break in Istanbul today – I promise you won’t be disappointed!
