Stockholm boasts some of the most interesting places in Sweden, including its very own National Park. The Cirkus Arena hosts many festivals throughout the year and sports fans will find all sorts of events at the Stockholm Olympiastadion.

So if the thought of spending Valentine’s Day with a microwave meal for one does not appeal to you, a weekend in Stockholm definitely will.

Socialising in Stockholm

When your flight to Stockholm arrives, head to the boutique Rival Hotel, where the stylish art deco cocktail bar offers the perfect opportunity to mingle with fellow guests and locals alike.

The Old Town, with its medieval streets, is a great place to explore some of Stockholm’s most well known sites, including the Royal Palace and the Cathedral.

And at only 500 metres in diameter, there’s every chance you could find yourself bumping into The One!

Where to stay

There are many hotels in Stockholm to choose from. The Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel provides an international chain in a prime city centre location, while First Hotel Amaranten has a fitness studio and spa to help you feel your best before hitting the town.

The vibrant Södermalm district is the place to go in the evenings, with clubs, bars and restaurants overflowing with a young, sociable crowd.

Getting Out and About

The fashion-conscious are well catered for in the trendy SOFO district on Stockholm’s south island, while the downtown area has the usual shopping malls and department stores as well as its very own antique and art district.

Why not take a trip on a vintage steamboat to Drottningholm Palace, a Unesco World Heritage Site that is home to the Swedish Royal family.

And if you’re thinking of going further afield, you can always hire a car to explore some of the Stockholm archipelago’s 24,000 islands.
