• The weather is very changeable from day to day so pack for all weather. Bring suntan lotion from home, as this was expensive at 15e a bottle.
• If there are four of you it may be worth hiring a car so you can get about as taxis are quite expensive. It would be better to book the car in the UK though as we discovered that many people in this area do not speak good English.
• There are an abundance of excellent shops that unfortunately do hit the hip pocket. There are also many little shops in Old Town Marbella, but be aware that they seem to be closed for most of the day and some don’t open on a Saturday and Sunday.
• Why not soak up the atmosphere and sit outside at the many bars and cafes and people watch as the locals drive around in their Bentleys and Ferraris or the many million pound yachts out on the water?
• If you want to buy Cigarettes you need to go to a TABAC shop. These seem to shut about 1:00pm and re-open later in the day. Be aware that some don’t take credit cards and are closed on Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. You can however buy them at the airport and use credit cards there.
• Ensure everyone has taken comfortable walking shoes and bring plasters for those weary feet.
• For the well deserved spa treatment try ‘Harmony’ on the main road in Puerto Banus, and comes highly recommended from the girls who paid 60e for a full hour. Miramar Spa & Beauty Marbella looked good too for facials which start at 51e and a half an hour massage starts at 35e, it’s on the beach front near the old town.
• For nights out try the Casino, they charge 5e to join on the night and you must have passport as ID. However if you join online it is free.
• Sample the local Faustino Blanco white Rioja. This is normally about 12-15e a bottle however in Puerto Banus it is 25e and at the airport you can pick it up for 4e!
• Sample the local cuisine by sharing different dishes – you can always order more if it isn’t enough!
