Beauty of Paris

Certain ‘je ne sais quoi’

If you’re in love, then there’s no better place to be. And if you’re out of love, well, then there’s no better place to sooth the soul. To experience one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, it’s now easier than ever to hop on a cheap flight to Paris and immerse yourself in great food, wine and culture, even if it’s just for a weekend.

To make the most of your Paris city break, you need to get up close and personal. Don’t just take photos of the Eiffel tower, take the elevator right up to the top.Tour the gothic interior of the Notre Dame Cathedral, and walk down the busy Champs Elysees, taking the underground passageway which leads inside the Arc de Triomphe.

An Abundance of Art

If you’re an art lover, you obviously need to spend a few hours wandering around the Louvre, though there are a host of lesser-known museums that are worth checking out.

I recommend the Marmottan (2 Rue Louis Boilly), which has some spectacular Monets; Manufacture des Gobelins – a royal tapestry factory (42 avenue des Gobelins) and the Museum of Eroticism (72 Boulevard de Clichy).

Magic of Montmartre

In Montmartre, the highest point in the city and, I think, the most charming neighborhood, climb to the top of the Sacré-Coeur Basilica – you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the city. Then, wander around the cemetery, and see how many painters, composers, and musicians you recognize (hint, Degas and Berlioz both ended up here.)

After Dark

After sunset, you’ll experience the romance and passion that Paris is known for. The Eiffel tower has a dazzling light show, the windmill of the Moulin Rouge glows crimson, and the Seine reflects city lights. To explore the buzzing nightlife, head to the Bastille district, to the bars and clubs on Rue de Lappe and Rue de la Roquette.

As for where to lay your head, there is a great Paris hotel for everyone, whether you’re looking for bijou, boutique or budget. I suggest the hotel Holiday Inn Paris-Notre Dame if you want something in the heart of the city, the hotel Mariotte Rive Gauche for international luxury at a good price, or the hotel Villa Montparnasse on the left bank of the Seine.
