Walk the walk
A quaint way to get a feel for the history of Boston is on an ‘Old Town Trolley Tour’. You will cram in over 100 points of interest, including ancient burial grounds and state landmarks plus a free cruise of Boston Harbor. If you’d rather explore on foot, then be sure to walk to Freedom Trail; two and a half miles of revolutionary history, including 16 different historically significant sites. With a choice of museums, meeting houses and old churches, you’ll be an expert on the American struggle for independence from British rule.
The houses of the heroes
The best way to get to know the personalities who shaped the city is to visit their homes. The Paul Revere House was the spot where, in 1775, this local hero set out on his famous ‘midnight ride’ to warn fellow revolutionaries that the British were on their way.
Harrison Grey Otis House, built in 1796 and still filled with elegant fixtures and lavish furnishings, was home to the successful developer of Beacon Hill, who later became Mayor of the City and a representative in Congress.
Historic hotels
To complete your travels through Boston’s past, stay at one of the luxurious hotels situated in the historic old town. The Lenox Hotel sits right on Copley Square in the Back Bay area, next to architectural gems Trinity Church and Boston Public Library. Another of the great Boston deals on offer at the moment is the Boston Park Plaza Hotel & Tower, which offers no less than nine in-house dining options, or consider Days Inn Colonial Resort Hotel for a decent budget choice.
