London is the place to be the summer after next – so where will you be?
Organisers say that about eight million tickets will be available for the 2012 Olympic Games, so why shouldn’t one of them be yours? The eyes of the world will be focused on the UK’s bustling metropolis from July 27th to August 12th. So if you’re hoping to have a seat at the opening ceremony, it’s time to get planning now!

With kick-off a little under two years away, work is well underway to construct new venues and beautify existing ones. The Olympic Park, which will be situated in Stratford, will be made up of two arenas (for basketball and handball) and along with the Athletes’ Village next door, will create a huge wetlands area and 3,600 new apartments for East London.Well-known venues like Hyde Park and Wembley Stadium will also be put to use, while Dorset will host the sailing events.
An estimated ten and a half thousand athletes will descend on the city for holidays in London with a difference; set to participate in 300 different events across 26 sports (officially 38 disciplines).
A number of demonstration sports, including twenty20 Cricket and netball are being considered. This will be the first year that women’s boxing is included in the program.
How to be part of the magic
If you’re in another part of the UK, then book a flight to London as soon as they become available. You can go to the games as a spectator or, even better, get involved!
More than seventy thousand volunteers will be needed – sign up on the official website www.london2012.com.
If your dream is to view an event, tickets go on sale in the spring of 2011, and although seats to many events may be pricy, road cycling, triathlon and the marathon will all be free.
Hotels in London will fill up fast, so consider these accommodation options: the Copthorne Tara Hotel is located in the stylish neighborhood of Kensington, The Landmark hotel is in an incredible Victorian building in Marylebone, while Think Apartments offer a great modern self-catering option in Earl’s Court.
