Treat yourself with a visit to Spain’s most vibrant metropolis!
As one of Europe’s most popular short-break destinations, Barcelona is a city of great beauty and is admired not only for the spectacular views from its hilltops and cathedral spires but also for its breathtaking architecture. However, a Barcelona holiday is not complete unless you visit the city’s magnificent parks.

My absolutely favourite park in Barcelona is
Park Güell: designed by Antonio Gaudí, this is perhaps the most popular park in Barcelona. A UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site, this park has been open to the public since 1922 and has been at the receiving end of a wide range of comments from ‘outrageous modernism’, ‘nightmare Expressionist park’, to ‘surrealistic island’. You will understand the reasoning behind these comments right from the moment you set foot in the main entrance of the park and on the stairway leading to the Hundred Columns Room.

So what are you waiting for? Just hop onto a flight to Barcelona and experience the splendour of its parks.

Some of my other favourite parks in Barcelona are
Park de la Ciudadella: located in the Barri Gotic, Park de la Ciudadella is a public garden and an exhibition space. The gardens and fountains here are an excellent example of the very early works of Gaudí, and beyond the gardens, you’ll see a host of fantastic Spanish architecture. This is a must-visit park, not just because of its beauty, but for all the fascinating history associated with it; but if you want to find out about its history you should see the park for yourself – trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Park Laberint: if you want to see beautiful statues of your favourite mythological characters, Labyrinth Park is the place to go. Built in 1791, this park is set on different levels with pavilions, stairways and richly ornamented railings that will take you right into the land of fantasy.
