Get the most from this volcanic isle!
If it’s a beach you’re looking for then Lanzarote has 93 of them. Natural wonders include an emerald green lagoon, dramatic coastal lava formations, dormant volcanoes and black sand beaches. Your luxurious hotel in Lanzarote is right on the shore. Historical castles hold stories of pirate raids, while fiestas and festival year-round celebrate everything from Carnaval to Canarian Day. Add fresh food from the fertile lava-rich soil and fine local wines and you’ve got a holiday in Lanzarote that offers so much more than sun and sand.

Take a hike
Go ahead and book that flight to Lanzarote, the jewel of the Canary Islands. But before you retire to bronze on the beach, check out some of the natural beauty of the interior. Covering half of the surface of the island, Timanfaya National Park is hard to miss. After touring the volcanic landscape, you can have your lunch cooked over an islote, which reach searing temperatures just a few metres underground. Over in Cueva de los Verdes, you can tour tunnels and caverns created by underground lava flows.
Lazy days on the beach
At the main resorts like Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, you’ll find crowds of sun worshippers stretched out on sun loungers. A little off the beaten track, you can enjoy more peace and quiet at one of the wilder, untouched spots like Caleton Blanco in the North, or check out the black sands of El Golfo, sitting on the shores of the Green Lagoon. For watersports enthusiasts, there’s unbeatable surfing North of Orzola at Playa de la Canteria, and kitesurfers will love the gusts at Famara, a 9km stretch of sand on the northwestern coast.
Where to Wind Down
If you’re in Puerta del Carmen during the winter months, you’ll love the Vik San Antonio Hotel Lanzarote. It’s got three heated outdoor pools, a wellness area with Turkish bath, and is minutes away from great restaurants and shopping. If you’re there in summer, take adantage of the hotel’s location right on sandy ‘Los Pocillos’ beach, with the promenade just a few minutes walk away. For a little more independence, try the Hotetur Aquarius Apartments, set in a huge complex great for families, with an entertainment program featuring water polo and wildlife shows.
