Riviera Maya Mexico
The Riviera Maya is a major tourist destination in Mexico, stretching along the south east coast of the country, with plenty to do if you’re looking for a couple’s break.
Playa del Carmen is a major tourist spot along this coastline, with plenty of hotels to choose from, such as an all-inclusive package at the adults only Paradisus La Perla, which really has everything you could want for a beach holiday located on site, such as 14 restaurants, 8 bars, private beach and activities such as Tango, sushi-making and winetasting. A little further out from the centre of Playa del Carmen is a hotel inspired by Maya style low rise buildings and set in a forest, the Fairmount Mayakoba is surrounded by the water of lagoons. It is near to the El Camaleon golf course, the only official PGA tour event held outside the U.S. or Canada and also offers a number of restaurants, spa and tennis facilitiesShould you choose to leave the comfortable environs of your hotel, there are a number of activities available in the area of Playa Del Carmen, especially if you enjoy nightlife. You can go on a VIP tour of Playa Del Carmen Nightclubs, with all entrance fees and free drinks included, as you visit three of the area’s nightspots. You can also go on a four hour beach bar crawl in Playa Del Carmen during the afternoon, with free drinks included and special deals on food.
If you’re a fan of water activities, the Riviera Maya has plenty to offer such as a dolphin swim adventure, where you will be greeted with a kiss and a handshake by the dolphin, before going swimming with the creature! You can also go on a cruise aboard a 45ft catamaran, where you can snorkel in a cove of tropical fish, visit a beach, and enjoy a full bar and picnic, as well as hanging onto a ‘boom net’ out in the open water. For the more adventurous traveller with an open water certification, you can go cave diving in some of the Yucatan Penninsula’s famous underwater caves and caverns with experienced guides in small groups of no more than four. You’ll explore the cavern are of Dos Ojos and Caverna de Murcielagos, taking in the beauty of these natural wonders.
Cancún is located to the north of the Riviera Maya, and is of course a very well known destination; so many activities take place in and around this area, such as the largest Zipline in north America, covering a distance of almost 2 miles in the Mayan Jungle! On this tour you’ll also get the opportunity to visit a hidden grotto, where you’ll get to dive into its waters, or take another zipline ride that will end with you in the water! The Mayan site of Tulum, located to the south of the Riviera Maya on the sea front can be visited on a day trip from Cancún, where you’ll get to see buildings dating back to the 12th century, as well as visiting Xel-Ha, a natural aquatic theme park where you’ll learn how to snorkel and see many different tropical fish. You can also explore underground rivers or partake in activities such as cliff diving, rope bridge walking and kayaking. If Tulum captures your heart you can always spend a few days there, at a hotel such as the Cabanas Tulum which offers 8 beach front rooms, and you can relax in a hammock while enjoying the atmosphere of the coconut tree filled beach front.
