We originally booked the hotel for May 2020 which was subsequently moved to May 2021 and then May 2022 due to restrictions. When we enquired about changing the specific date of the 2022 stay a couple of months ago, senior staff flat out refused our request, despite having moved the booking twice already without any issue. They cited the room being non-refundable but refused to move the booking from a date upon which the hotel was charging £97 per night to a date where they were charging £69. Despite explaining that this made zero commercial sense, they continued to dig their heels in regardless. I find it incomprehensible that the change could not be made as the staff stuck with their apparent “computer says no” attitude. No doubt the hotel will cite their “terms and conditions” and “policies” as the reasons behind the refusal of our request but, we know for certain that it would have been possible to change if they were willing. We will be avoiding this hotel at all costs in future and will opt for a hotel which cares about their guests instead. It is sad to see that good customer service appears to be yet another victim of the recent pandemic.

Long time to check in (10-15 minute wait) despite there being 2 staff on duty, both in the kitchen. Only one person able to do check ins apparently. Staff seemed more concerned sorting out a pizza and payment method (bank of England paper £20’s not accepted) for a guest in the restaurant despite the obvious restless queue starting to grow at reception. Was given a room (307) on the third floor initially and it was clean and of the usual IBIS standard. Door would not lock however when I left and anyone would be able to walk in without a keycard to the room. Reception didn’t seem to surprised by this failure in maintenance. Was assigned another room on a different flooor.

I had pre paid for room with Ebookers. On arrival I was told I had to pay a further 50 pounds for pre payment with no explanation for this other that's what IBIS do . I explained I had already paid for room and was not at all happy with this. Internet was not made available . This payment of which I was not informed about is something I am reporting to ombudsman . And not acceptable. I won't be booking again for this reason.

Good location

Close to the train station and union street. Typical ibis cheap bathroom pod but over all an adequate hotel for the money.
