The reviews said it all, but I didn't think it could be that bad; it was worse! Booked in eventually following nightmarish journey and needing a good rest. Room given was small double, stunk as if someone had just used the toilet! Went to get into bed and side of floor was soaked. When I complained to the manager, said the radiator was obviously leaking as a towel had been put over the pipe, he said he knew but he couldn't get it fixed yet. He said it was only next to the bed not the whole floor. I asked for any other room.

Old hotel just needs some tlc

Got booked in early, single room was clean and very comfortable bed, TV failed to work, sound only, electric shower so hot water all the time, radiator had no way of turning on or off as the taps were missing, I was there for a motorcycle rally, so small problems didn't bother me. The staff and the food made up for everything.

Very Poor

Location: Aboyne is in the Braemar area, which is a busy tourist area. However, I really did not think we had hotels like this in Scotland anymore!
Phoned through the week to ask for an early check in as we were attending a wedding in the area. Also asked if the refurbishment was finished as we had seen some terrible reviews due to decoration etc. we were assured it should be finished. On arrival the receptionist charged us although it clearly said on our confirmation that payment had been taken. We phoned e.bookers who quickly sorted it out and we got our money refunded. Overall the hotel was obviously still under refurbishment. There was lots of obviously new pieces of furniture and furnishings, but the lobbies and stairs were badly needing to be upgraded. There new beds, but a tear in the duvet cover. Anomalies like this were to be seen throughout. There was no heating in the room, and no hot water. Essentials for our wedding attendance. On complaining we were told the pump was to be replaced through the day, and would be fine on our return. Hot water was there when we returned, but no heating. Others that we knew staying did have heating , but no control over it and it was too hot! People actually checked out in the evening as they had a baby with them and it was too cold. On a positive- the breakfast was quite good, and the waitress was friendly. Really cannot recommend this hotel as it was basically a shambles.

Tries to look stylish but fails with the basics.

Cons: Staff quality and quantity Hotel infrastructure
At first we were surprised about the modern looks inside the hotel during check-in and hoped for the best. When we then went to our room we were already greated with a hot house like environment as all radiators on our corridor were apparently working at full power, which resulted in an overly warm room. Apparently we were not the only ones, which noticed this issue, because when we informed the reception, they told us, that the boiler was already turned off. In the room itself we noticed, that the new wallpapers were not properly hanged at the top was already coming loose. Then in the morning we had the issue, that our shower did not provide any hot water. Afterwards the situation was not improved by us having to wait around 15 minutes before we could order our hot breakfast. Overall we think that the staff was overwhelmed and while the look was kind of style-ish, the infrastructure is rather lacking.
