Staff keen but green!

The venue itself is superb. A wonderful old building, full of character. What I didn't appreciate when I booked, is that the hotel is used to train students in hospitality and hotel management. They were almost all (apart from the lady at reception who checked us in and out) very cheerful and friendly, (unfortunate that she wasn't, as this was our first impression). The problem is that while they are keen to help, the service can be very haphazard and sometimes painfully slow! I have nothing against students - everyone has to start somewhere, but I would have liked to have known beforehand!

Not good

I came here with my partner. It was a first time visit and we enjoyed the architecture and attended art galleries and museums. This is not a four star hotel by any means. The entrance, downstairs floor generally and the food was lovely. However, everything else was a disappointment. I've stayed in many four star hotels and this was the worst one I've stayed in. We stayed in the top corner room of the building - which from the outside looks amazing. It was such a shame the room itself was in such poor condition. As soon you left the lift we noticed plastering marks on the wall which wasn't a good sign. Either it gets painted or covered. It was all over the wall. The room itself was dark and unfinished. There were several marks on the wooden furniture in the room, a water stain on the bathroom floor from where the water had been leaking from the shower, the room hadn't been cleaned properly as I found rubbish in one of the bedside tables. The curtains weren't drawn properly. The ceiling is very high in the room because someone couldn't reach it. We had port one night downstairs and decided to bring it upstairs to the room. It stayed there for the ENTIRE stay. What on earth makes you think I would want the same port two days later from the same glass?! The ironing board was simply left in the middle of the corridor in the room. Either put it aside somewhere or remove it from the room. The room itself was dark (given the high pointed ceiling). There was poor lighting in the room - with the odd light here and there and the switches didn't work properly. Consideration needs to be made given the high ceiling - the room would be darker naturally. There was bright green mould on the outside of other window in the room. The room reminded me of those shoddy rooms in Paddington, London UK. An old room with tired furniture with poor lighting. The service was generally quite poor. No 'student' was wearing a badge so we assumed all staff were professionals. I would have to wait several minutes to be served at the reception desk even though someone was someone there. They really failed to lookout for who else might be at the desk waiting to be served. It's a hotel I will never stay in again and not would I recommend it to friends or family. I paid over £100 per night and I believe it wasn't worth it all at. We complained during our stay - mostly about the poor state of the room. The manager (I think) understood and said it would be refurbished soon but I'll never go back so will never really know. This is listed on a well known Mr & Mrs site which I find hard to believe. Enjoy those stale items of food left out for the entire day at reception.

Stunning hotel in great neighborhood

The College Hotel is located in a beautiful historical building, in a lovely part of Amsterdam. Our room was large, well laid-out and comfortable. There were a few quirks (such as no towel rack in the bathroom), but overall the room definitely impressed - not in the least because it is very big for Amsterdam standards. Maintenance and cleaning are the Achilles heel of this hotel. There was a tremendous amount of dust to be found in the room, covering all surfaces. A few lightbulbs were out. A light switch was missing. That really is unacceptable for a four star hotel. I would recommend this hotel, because of the location, the building and the large rooms. If manage would address the current maintenance and cleanliness issues, this would be a real hidden gem.

Hyvä hotelli loistavalla sijainnilla museoiden lähellä. Persoonallinen rakennus, huoneessa melko niukka valaistus, muuten siisti huone. Aamiainen monipuolinen, ystävällinen palvelu kaikenkaikkiaan.

Tunnelmallinen hotelli

Pros: Hyvä tunnelma, vanhan talon tyyli on mielestäni kiva.
Cons: Aamiaisella kahvikone piiputti kolmena aamuna, mutta henkilökunta järjesti kahvia ripeästi.
Kaunis ja siisti hotelli hyvien kulkuyhteyksien varrellla. Henkilökunta erityisesti respassa ihanaa. Riittävän hyvä aamiainen, hyvää kahvia ja tuoreita hedelmiä.

Zentrales Hotel mit Charme und Superservice

Pros: Ambiente und Ausstattung. Lage
