Rooms too small for the price and location And you guys at Ebookers really are annoying too: I volunteer my time to give a short review and the best thing you can do is to prwvent me from submitting by saying "Please add a bit more to your review." !! Unbelievable. The best way to keep people away. You have just succeeded

Good location, view and well-connected

Pros: Excellent staff, good rooms, good views on higher floors, ease of tram access.
Cons: Occasionally need to ask reception to run bar, drink selection limited. Brits: No milk with tea/coffee (If you prefer milk and sugar, creamer works).
Location: Location is close to Dappermarkt (good for food), ARTIS/Micropia, Hortus gardens, De Gooyer (windmill) and Brouwerij 't Ij. 9, 10 and 14 trams nearby.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and slept well. Close to De Gooyer windmill, Tropenmuseum, ARTIS/Micropia, the Dappermarkt and the Brouwerij 't Ij, the hotel is only a #9 tram away from the centre (10 mins max) with a good number of eateries nearby. View is excellent, either over the city or the park. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The bar is simple but relaxing. The building seems to be a '60s conversion -- the older-style lifts may be a concern to those with phobias or families with children putting their fingers in things -- but the rooms are pleasant with separate toilets from the shower/bathroom. Went for a winter weekend break as a couple and wouldn't think twice about going again: quiet enough for a sleep, close enough to Amsterdam to be useful, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Decent hotel in walking distance of the city centr

Pros: See above.
Cons: See above./
We booked a superior room as we were travelling with our young daughter. The room, without the Z-bed that was put up, would have been a good size for a major city hotel. We had a view over to the park, which was lovely. I'd avoid breakfast - a bit of a rip-off for the poor selection/quality offered. There are no stairs, which we found a bit weird. Just the lift. My daughter has a phobia about lifts, so she had to be brave. We discovered that there was a fire exit but it was on the exterior of the building. Shower room and loo tiny, so if you're a big person, you'd have difficulties turning around, especially in the loo! Beds and pillows good. Tea and coffee in the room.

3 nights in Amsterdam

Location: Good located, I recommend to rent a bicycle, like this you can reach every spot in the city within 15 minutes.
Good hotel with friendly staff. Rooms clean and up to date. Breakfast was not included, but could be added for Euro 12.50 and was really excellent.

Excellent stay

We actually only booked the Tropen a week before we arrived after cancelling our original hotel due to bad reviews and I'm glad we did! It's in a great location by the park, the view from our room was lovely. There's a tram stop right outside that takes you to Rembrandtplein, Dam Square or Central Station in less than 15 minutes. Most days we just walked in, which took about 20 minutes, taking us past the zoo. We'd happily stay here again and would recommend it to anyone!

3 day trip

Hotel looked a bit dingy from the outside! But don't judge a book by its cover, was lovely inside, staff were very friendly, and allowed us to check in early. Wifi worked perfectly, views were amazing. Number 9 team stops right outside the hotel, only 5 minutes tram ride to the city centre
