    About this property

    Unique neoclassical house under Acropolis

Marvel yourself in one of the most unique neoclassical listed residences in Plaka -the village within the city itself; a two story 19th century renovated home that sits on top of an open standing excavation of the foundations of Tripodon street, one of the world's oldest, bearing the same name ever since the times of classical Athens, covered by durable glass serving as the dining room floor. The Space: Marvel yourself in one of the most unique neoclassical listed residences in Plaka -the village within the city itself; a two story 19th century renovated home that sits on top of an open standing excavation of the foundations of Tripodon street, one of the world's oldest, bearing the same name ever since the times of classical Athens, covered by durable glass serving as the dining room floor; stonewalls filled with fragments of the city's 3000 years history Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Neo-Hellenic; a wooden staircase alongside the framed original architectural sketches of the houses signed and dated 1883 that leads to the main quarter: a spacious living room with a marble fireplace, original light fixtures of the era combined with modern elements, and a five meters tall bedroom also with a stone wall and an adjacent master bathroom; and on top of all that, an 80 square meters rooftop oasis with local plants and herbs, right underneath the rock and the walls of the Acropolis. History and tradition come with luxury and comfort in the Tripodon House; from the elegant modern furniture mixed with unique old pieces, to the comfortable lounge chairs on the rooftop, to the marble bathrooms (one with shower and bathtub) to the 1,80 king sized Duxiana bed in the master bedroom. The lower floor includes the modern appliances kitchen, that have incorporated in a corner the original 19th century modest marble sink, that opens up to the dining room with the glass floor covering the antiquities, a connecting ample hall, marble WC an office room with a comfortable day bed that can sleep one, and the closet under the stairs with the washing machine. The main marble floors story is over five meter tall, typical in the fashion of neoclassical houses and includes: a living room with 3 comfortable and elegant sofas and chairs (two of the sofas easily sleep one each) a marble fireplace, large windows in the front and the back of the house that allow ample natural light all day long, and the master bedroom with the adjacent master bathroom. The wooden staircase, that dominates the scene, takes you to the rooftop veranda. Enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast there under the pergola, in the backdrop of the ritualistic flag raising on the emblematic flag post on the Akropolis ancient walls (you can actually hear the hoarse voices of the soldiers singing the Greek national anthem while raising the flag). From shortly before sunset to the wee hours of the night, relax and immerse yourself in majestic serenity of the rock and walls of the Acropolis. The house can sleep three (using the extremely comfortable sofas up to five). It is highly recommended however for couples + one. The Neighborhood: The House is walking distance from The New Acropolis Museum, just two blocks from the Acropolis Metro station, all the landmarks of Plaka including the Roman Forum and the Agora, the countless small Byzantine churches, the monuments of Lyssikrates and the Tower of the Winds, the pedestrian steers of Kydathineon, Emperors Hadrian's street and the Aeropagitou Acropolis peripheral walkway. Getting Around: You can actually walk your way to the hipster Square of Aghia Irene, or the crowdie Monastiraki square to the east, Syntagma square to the North, Theision (a bit further to the east) and of course the Holy Rock of the Acropolis. Other Things to Note: VERY IMPORTANT FELINE ADVISORY: The residents of the Tripodon House will be delighted to extend you hospitality and have you as guest, during your Athens stay but, the rightful permission actually comes from the four resident cats (well, you know cats they are not pets they are owners of the house that let you stay with them). Please note that the house comes with four cats (one extremely cuddling and way over-friendly, Gatsby, who thinks he is a dog, another always on the verge of eminent danger that you might be lucky enough to see, Lulah, and two rather indifferent to the humans that came to stay, Vanilla and Maurice). The residents will grant you the House but the true owners have plans to stay.
