Room to stay if budget is the main sticking point

I would not recommend this place for any other reason. It is strictly a budget hotel. Do not stay here unless your expectations are basic. Having said that it is manned at reception and the staff are helpful. The place does need a refit but that would add to the cost of a room. I'd prefer it as is.

Would avoid at all costs

Pros: The staff were courteous
Cons: Needs completely modernising . the parking to the rear was definitely not something I would use as it looked like it was frequented by undesirables
Location: Lots of fast food places within walking distance , in fact a stones throw away so lots of traffic most of the evening.
This "hotel" does not look like the same place in the photos, by the looks of it the owners have used two buildings either side and attached to it for fast food establishments. The inside once past reception looks more like a museum and also smells very musty. in order to get to rooms you have to negotiate steep stairs and a maze of display rooms ,some with steps down then up again to exit to another corridor. The room I stayed in followed the theme of old furniture in poor condition, with most of the handles missing of a dresser unit with storage draws, as it was dirty inside I left my clothes in my bag. The beds were very hard and lumpy , obviously poor quality , sheets were clean looking but I found several long hairs when I pulled the thin excuse for a duvet back. Only one pillow supplied per bed and also very thin and practically unless. There were no hand towels and upon requesting one I was given another bath towel as that is all they have I was told, also upon reporting very loose taps on the bathroom sink , I was told most rooms are the same and as long as they not leaking I would have to manage with holding the spout with one hand and turning it on and off with the other. I reported two lights were out and was asked what sort of bulbs they were ! I of course had no idea as the bulbs were covered by semi circles of glass , Only two switches controlled all the lights so it was either pitch black or really bright. I could go on and on but this only allows so many words

Awful

So bad we had to check out, dead rat outside entrance, dirty reception, room had broken door only window was onto the corridor with no curtain, filthy mattress and duvet. Bathroom down stairs with no hand rail, bath dirty and cracked. Cost me more in the end as We needed to book another hotel.

Birmingham Worst Inn

This was a terrible hotel, even for a budget one. The first room they gave us was dirty and had insects crawling in the bathtub. After we complained, they gave us another room. This was slightly better, but the seats were so dirty, we wouldn't dream of seating on them! Luckily, we only needed to sleep at night there so got on with it.

stay here only if you cant find a ditch

Rude staff, filthy room, when I complained and was moved, the next room was just as bad. Nothing worked. Checked in late so no alternative. Slept fully dressed, as I didn't want to get in the bed

Strangest Hotel ever

Was incredibly glad we had only booked one night here as we managed to laugh about it rather than cry! Even on entering the hotel it was somewhat bizarre. You are faced with a flight of stairs which take you up to the reception desk. Having got our key (yes a real metal key!) we were given directions to our room, something like ' go through this door, turn right then left, take the next right then left then right, go down steps go up steps go right then left then right then right then the room is on left!!! The room itself was large with two windows who's curtains were hanging on for dear life and were impossible to close. The kettle plug would not fit in the socket without us first rearranging the furniture and we had 3 cups between four of us. There were numerous pictures hung on the wall and none of them were hung straight! The room, which was supposed to be non smoking smelled of stale cigarettes and had an overall feel of something from the Adams Family. The free wi fi was not available in all the rooms we were informed and when we tried to access it in the main reception area it was not available there either! Having slept in our respective beds each on our single very flat pillow, we got up and went down for the breakfast we had paid a supplement for. There was absolutely no sign of anything edible to be found! The lad on the desk made a phone call and told us to wait in the lounge area. 10 -15 min later we were informed that the guy in charge of breakfast wasn't coming. Apparently he had not turned up for some two weeks. When asked why they hadn't sacked him the reception guy shrugged and said it was a separate concern for which he had no concern! On venturing through the downstairs labyrinth looking for the WC we went through a strange mix of Victorian shop fronts, all empty and into an area that looked like it had been some kind of museum in its former days! So the two criteria we used to book the hotel - free Wi fi and breakfast - were never really there in the first place and to be honest this hotel, though an interesting experience, has yet to move into the 20th century never mind this one!
