Disappointing

Stayed at other Copthornes and have been satisfied. However, the one in Birmingham has been a low spot. In the middle of a building site (not their fault), car park full when we arrived at 5.15pm so had to use public car park across the road - which was cheaper! Reception was busy and understaffed. Had a query once in room but could not get anyone on the internal phone system. Had to go back down to Reception and wait to speak to the harrassed Receptionist. Decor on the drab side. Water stains on ceilings, bare light bulbs in restaurant where shades are missing, side lights in room not working. Stayed 2 nights. Breakfast on first morning was chaotic. At least 5 tables were waiting to be cleared and the waiter showed us to a coffee table to eat! We refused this saying we would wait while a proper table was cleared. We went to the cereals section which was mostly empty of food. We had a glass of pink grapefruit juice (only choice) but it was heavily watered down so tasteless. My husband wanted tea so the waiter appeared with a mug and tea bag and poured hot (not boiling) water from a flask. Looked, and smelled, like dishwater. On a positive note, the cooked breakfast selection was better. The breakfast on our final morning was to the normal, expected standard. Beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. Will stay elsewhere next time.

Good hotel, central location

Good location, friendly, helpful staff. Big room, clean, big bed with quality bedding (mattress dipped in the middle though, so not the best nights sleep). Good breakfast (no vegetarian option but may have been available on request, I didn't ask as there was enough variety of other items. Always a lovely scented smell in the bar and lounge area. We travelled by train, an easy walk between station and hotel with a small case. We were aware of major building work nearby so no gripes there. We always use this hotel for overnight stays when seeing shows nearby at the Symphony Hall and NIA/Barclaycard Arena, I got a great value deal including breakfast and free WI-FI and would have no hesitation recommending it to others and look forward to returning here again.

City centre hotel

Nice hotel but looking a little tired and dated on the outside. Nice and welcoming staff. Comfortable room and bed but could do with modernising. Breakfast very good.

Nice hotel close to town centre

The room was spacious to all intents and purposes. I had clean and fresh linen. Complimentary fresh fruits were very hand and health friendly.

It's a a nice hotel and very clean

I enjoyed being there, the room is spacious and the double bed is a king size. However, I had problem with the TV which does not function correctly.

Concert visit

The Hotel was clean, all staff were very friendly and the room was more than adequate for our needs. However the bedroom and bathroom were rather tired and needed updating, we were told that due to the major construction work the hotel was scheduled to be demolished and a new one built in the immediate area.
