The hotel stunk of sewage in many area's of the hotel. The bed in the hotel was in need of replacing, it had been used that much that foot of the bed was higher than the middle, also very small. It was also an ex smoking room and had a stale environment to the room. Its a real shame seeing this once grand hotel in the condition it is kept in today (wallpaper coming away from the walls). We have written to ebookers for a refund as we checked out at midnight and found alternative accomodation.

Awful hotel. We didn’t stay it was that bad.

We checked straight out! As did two other couples at the time 😡awful, dirty smelly and very old and in need of desperate make renovations. The bathroom smells of sewage, the bedding was soiled the curtains and carpet was dirty, every wall dirty and scuffed. Do not book this you would be better off in a b& b

It's sad to see what would have once been a grand hotel now unloved and run down. Our room, altought apparently one of the better rooms, was that so small, dirty and smelly. The bed was that uncomfortable sleeping on the floor or in our car was more appealing. It was that bad we checked out a day early.

Close to the Beach, and very old.

Pros: The shower was pretty good, but considering I'd seen two rooms, I'm not sure the shower in the first one would have been very good.
Cons: Everything!
Location: It's very close to the sea - apparently the only hotel actually on the sea front. It's close to the illuminations, the beach, bars and the Tower.
Close to the beach and the main attractions, but very very run down - broken drawers, old furniture. Not worth the price! Staff were friendly and helpful enough; we had an issue with the room and had to move rooms (albeit to a smaller, noisier room by the road). Would not stay there again, or recommend to anyone.

Hotel rooms

Having stayed at this hotel a few times we found that the rooms are hit & miss, but we did notice that they have started to decorate & put new carpets down which is needed as the hotel has become a little run down

Crumbly, patched up hotel

Pros: Location
Cons: Cleanliness and a smile wouldn't go amiss from some of the staff
Great location right on the seafront but the condition of the building needs serious work. Some staff were great, especially the dining room staff but a couple of reception staff were quite rude. We had to leave the hotel early and when we checked out the lady on reception was very cold and off with us. She didn't even ask us if everything was ok. We were given a very large sea view room. Amazing size but in general the condition of the bathroom was terrible. Big stains on the ceiling and when it rained the tiles in the bathroom ceiling lifted up and down. Quite funny really. Wardrobe was not secured to wall and nearly toppled over on top of me when I put my clothes away. Dining room table near the window there was dirt and chunks of plaster on the floor. No excuse as this is just an issue of hotel cleaning. Overall it was a shame to see such a lovely old hotel in this condition. I understand the enormity of maintenance but many of the problems I saw were down to a simple lack of cleanliness and poor workmanship. I've stayed in Britannia hotels before but this was by far the worse. Such a shame.
