Great facilities but terrible mattresses.

The pool and spa area are fantastic, reception friendly and a nice location. However, the mattresses in both our rooms were old and extremely hard and uncomfortable. I asked for another duvet to use as an additional topper but still awful. These weren't just firm mattresses and therefore a personal preference issue, these were old and over used. 2 nights with little and painful sleep. Reception didn't care when mentioned but then I suspect nothing will be done as these things are usually planned replacements rather than ad hoc when required. Food in restaurant average but not cheap but some fantastic places not too far away to eat. Breakfast was great with lots of choice just don't ask for a poached egg as they come out snotty every time.

Excellent but read the small print

Pros: Quality of the rooms, quality of the hotel, the location, the staff (bar one) were all exemplary.
Cons: Guess!
Location: Alton Towers Burton Brewery Tours Burton Albion - home of the Brewers Gateway to the Potteries Close to Derby and not far from the Peak District
The drive is impressive, the layout and tidiness of the pitches, the atmosphere and anticipation of arrival to the new training home of English Football is palpable. The hotel entrance is no less impressive, the presentation of the staff first class. You can tell everyone wants the place to be special But... Booked with three children (I'm a single Dad) through Expedia, ages of children shown on Expedia. On check-in asked what time the pool was open for the children and I to use, opening times explained. Wait for the ending... Breakfast the next day was impressive, the buffet, the choice and even the quality (especially considering the amount of guests being served). The young gentleman on duty running breakfast was very professional, very charming, very personable and ultimately first class (if he doesn't achieve in life, I'd be hugely surprised and very disappointed with him, he stood out). Recommencement of the 'but'. Kids all changed after breakfast ready for a dip in the pool only to be denied access. Very simple, very flat and very disappointing. When asking why of course, the reason was that is Hilton's policy. I am more than happy to accept this on the grounds of health and safety but don't accept my reservation, don't explain to me on check-in about use of the pool. do advise me when booking over a week in advance of your policy, do take time to explore who in the family can or cannot swim. Refund received for checking out early so dealt with fairly.

Lovely hotel

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a fantastic stay. The staff were brilliant and extremely helpful. Our mattress wasn't very comfortable when we arrived, so we spoke to a member of staff who arranged for us to be given an extra mattress topper, which made a great difference. Other than that, we had absolutely no issues or complaints. Hotel was spotless and the breakfast was lovely. The swimming pool area was clean and the water was a nice temperature. We will definitely visit again!

Very nice hotel and location

Key cards are a pain because if you put it. near your phone this disables the magnetic strip. Very annoying if you've walked all the way to your room. I also got stuck in the lift due to this. Other than that it was very nice

Comfortable accomodation... service let it down

Overall this is a nice modern and comfortable hotel. The grounds are great and it has everything that you would expect from a Hilton hotel. The bedroom was clean and the bed very comfortable. We had some service related issues - having being out exploring for the day we were hoping to eat in the hotel restaurant, we had been told at check in that a booking wouldn't be required... after a long day we went down to the restaurant at 7pm only to be told that they were fully booked for the entire evening! We were told that we could have room service or that we would need to travel out to a restaurant (the hotel is quite remote hence the nearest restaurant/ pub is a good 10-15minute drive). I will in the future make a restaurant reservation at all hotels The reception and restaurant staff were quite rude - let what is otherwise a great hotel down. Whilst at the hotel, make a visit to the leisure facilities - spa, gym, pool, sauna, steam room etc. Great purpose built facilities and a good way to relax Based upon the service issues this hotel wouldn't be my first choice when in the area
