Made up of Taf Fawr and Taf Fechan in the Brecon Beacons in Wales, United Kingdom, the River Taff originates in Cefn-coed-y-cymmer and winds through several surrounding cities, including Cardiff, Pontypridd, Treharris, and Merthyr Tydfil as well as Whitchurch and Grangetown. Along its journey, the waters of the Taff and tributaries pass under multiple bridges like Old Bridge, Pontypridd, Pont-y-Cafnau, and other smaller swinging footpaths. At one point in time, River Taff flowed peacefully along the area of Cardiff Castle and downtown, but frequently flooded the streets and businesses during periods of intense rainfall. To remedy this, engineers from the South Wales Railway modified the surrounding land in the 1840s to divert the flow in a different direction, effectively saving the town from eventual ruin and creating several natural waterfalls in the process.
Today, the waters of this large river contribute to the livelihoods of many of the area's local fisherman and supply the markets and shops with succulent varieties such as sea trout, eel, and salmon. Take a cruise on the river, enjoy dinner, or simply walk along the paths and enjoy the sunrise or sunset.
