In the Mediterranean resort of Ayia Napa, Europe’s biggest partiers compete for space on the dancefloors and DJs spin thumping tunes round the clock in hundreds of bars and clubs; if you want to let loose and shake it until the sun comes up, you've come to the right place. For many years, this Cypriot town has been something of a Mecca for European revellers, and with its crystal waters, fantastic year-round climate and laid-back lifestyle, it’s not hard to see why. Book flights to Ayia Napa’s closest airport, Larnaca, to experience it all for yourself – just be prepared to let your hair down and party hard.
Ayia Napa’s Mediterranean climate makes for warm summers, eased by gentle sea breezes, and mild winters. The busiest time here is during July and August – crowds flock to the beaches and the clubs are at their most jam-packed. It can also be one of the most difficult times to find cheap flights to Ayia Napa; prices are much lower during the milder months from October to March, and though you may not get beach weather, fewer tourists mean that it’s easier to explore the glorious coastline.
The range of flights available from the UK to Ayia Napa is testament to its status as one of Europe’s party capitals. The closest airport to the resort is Larnaca, which is served from London by a host of carriers; British Airways and Aegean Airlines fly from Heathrow, Jet2 from Stansted and easyJet from Gatwick. Cheap tickets to Ayia Napa are also available from Manchester, East Midlands and Edinburgh courtesy of Jet2, while Monarch Airlines operates direct routes from Birmingham and Leeds. The journey time from London averages at four and a half hours.
There are plenty of taxis available outside Larnaca International Airport to whisk you to Ayia Napa. This is the easiest transfer option, but also the priciest, costing up to €65 for the 35-mile trip to the resort town. Alternatively, you can catch the bus from the airport to Larnaca city centre for €1, and from there board the inter-city bus – which costs around €4, and has a journey time of 50 minutes – to Ayia Napa Square.
When you've slept off last night's party, it's time to head for the sands. Hop on a scooter to Nissi Beach to soak up some sun or lounge around in the crystal-clear water. Relax with a cocktail and if you're feeling adventurous, jump on board a banana boat and whizz around the bay. For a culture fix, head for Ayia Napa monastery. This 15th-century building, constructed on the spot where a statue of the Virgin Mary was discovered, managed to survive years of Ottoman rule, and its modern-day location amongst the pubs and clubs of central Ayia Napa makes for a remarkable sight.
