Faro Airport is approximately 4 miles to the east of the city centre, and making the short journey is a breeze. The most convenient option is to take a 10-minute taxi ride into the heart of Faro for between €10 and €15. If public transport is more your style, the No. 16 bus runs from the city to the Praia de Faro beach and back, stopping mid-way at the airport every 30-40 minutes. A single journey costs around €3, but make sure to check the destination on the front of the bus so you don’t accidentally end up at the beach. Car rental is also available at the airport and may be a good option if you’re planning to tour the Algarve region.
Add a touch of romance to your trip by visiting the village of Estoi, just 6 miles north of Faro, and exploring its sumptuous Palace. The spectacular pink-hued rococo building, now a luxury hotel, is renowned for its gardens and azulejos (blue and white ceramic tiles) and is the perfect setting for a romantic interlude. On the way back, take a short detour and explore the ruins of a Roman villa at Milreu, set in the idyllic Algarve countryside.
