The coastal Cyprus city of Paphos really is a hidden gem. Situated on a spellbindingly beautiful island with a subtropical climate and mystical history, this port town should be far more famous than it is. More and more visitors are starting to discover the eye-opening ancient wonders of this seaside jewel, with many UK cities now offering regular daily flights to Paphos throughout the year. This charming resort town has a number of magical UNESCO-listed sites to go with miles of sparkling coastal beaches. Now that’s a lot of wow!
With year-round Cypriot sunshine shimmering down from the heavens, Paphos has the kind of laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle you’d expect. Tourism is the city’s biggest industry, and consequently the pace of life picks up during the busy summer months when thousands of visitors crowd the many seaside resorts and hotels. July and August are the hottest months on the island, but also the most humid so many prefer the relatively cooler and quieter late autumn and winter months. The best deals can be found from October to December, when a variety of UK airlines offer cheap flights to Paphos.
You really are spoilt for choice when it comes to flights from the UK to Paphos. An array of airlines, both large and small, offer connections to the resort town. Thomas Cook Airlines runs regular charter flights from London during summer and autumn, and British Airways connects Gatwick with the Cypriot city. Low-cost carrier EasyJet, however, leads the way for cheap tickets to Paphos with flights from Manchester and Edinburgh. Jet2.com provide seasonal services from a number of smaller regional airports, including Leeds, East Midlands and Edinburgh.
Your 4-to-5-hour flight to Paphos will bring you to Paphos International Airport. It’s the second largest in Cyprus and is situated just 6 miles southeast of the city. From there it’s a short 15-minute trip in a taxi to the city centre, or you can also opt for a shared shuttle bus, which will set you back about €15. There are 2 local bus routes that connect central Paphos with the airport, the 612 and 613. The buses run roughly every 70 minutes from morning to night and will cost you around €5 one way. Cyprus’ biggest port town Limassol can also be reached by bus with a 45-minute zip down the A6 motorway.
If you’re looking for the perfect Mediterranean getaway, Paphos ticks all the boxes. There are low-cost flights throughout the year and the calm waters of the town’s picturesque harbour are fringed with enough hotels and resorts to suit any budget. Dozens of glistening beaches and abundant top-class water sports mean you’re guaranteed lots of splash for your cash. The surrounding countryside is perfect for horse riding and cycling and there are 3 golf courses to try out during your stay. And all that before even mentioning the 12 museums and the UNESCO-listed town centre!
