Central location. Best shower ever! Clean. Beautiful Christmas decorations.HOWEVER: our room had the noisiest floorboards we've ever, ever endured.The din coming in from the road was huge & non-stop all night! - we both hardly slept.The mattress lies on a sheet of wood; the pillows are flat and small. There's nowhere in the shower to put shampoo, soap, etc. and nowhere in the bathroom to keep toiletries.Breakfast is very good but the toaster takes forever and there were no side plates.The cereals & pastries, etc. are paltry offerings - meagre and not kept topped up, one little teapot between two.The pub's bar is hugely popular yet tables in it are constantly being reserved for people booking meals.Drinkers come in, buy drinks then wander around with nowhere to sit - faced with 'reserved' cards on empty tables AND YET there is a perfectly lovely restaurant (very strange situation).We asked for mulled wine and were served it COLD. Service throughout the pub is lacklustre. Most staff are bored or irritable which (at Christmas) is never good.We felt unwelcome.We were talked down to.They knew there had been screaming, shouting and general din all through the second night from the streets (though the first night was noisy too) yet never enquired.They never asked how anything was! The car park is quite a trek away from the hotel.For the prices they charge, this hotel is NOT at all good value for money - which is sad because it's a brilliant old building in a superb location.

I loved the age of the property, it was very comfortable and clean because if the hot weather they had made every attempt to cool the room of course Scientology’s property no air conditioning. Likewise no lift my room was up several flights of stairs luckily only a small bag

Fantastic staff, lovely building and great location. My honest review is only to aid future improvement/consideration. Room 31- nice and fresh but not very clean. Water rings and hairs in bathroom- chocolate wrappers in drawers, greasy handprints on walls. Awful night's sleep due to thin walls and neighbouring room TV, snoring and bodily functions. Their ensuite is behind the wall to our bed so wasnt pleasant being able to hear all evolutions either. Breakfast was great and staff were lovely but higher cleaning standards and complimentary ear plugs would be useful.

no parking on site ,but not a problem parked 500yards away and only cost 17.50 for 2 days ,pub accommodation very reasonably priced and in the middle of the town centre ,lovely room and nice pub

We booked and paid online in advance.We checked in and the receptionist mixed us up with another customer with my surname and asked us to pay their room rate.The mistake was spotted and were directed to our correct room number 1.This was on the first floor.We tried to have an hours sleep before dinner,but at 16:00 on a Friday the noise from below was deafening.We just could not sleep.We went out for dinner and returned at 23:00 and the noise was worse until about 1:00 am. I would not stay here again for the money that we paid
