The first time I stayed here, I had a newly-furnished, modern, stylish clean room, with an enormous, very comfortable bed, in a separate wing, away from the main inn and was very impressed. The staff are friendly and helpful, the pub and dining area are very pleasant and the food is perfectly nice - they even let me go 'off menu' for breakfast, to have a healthier and vegetarian option. However, the second time I stayed, I was in a room in the main inn, and this was a whole other room experience! It was called 'Tatton' but I think 'Tatty' would be a better description! The furniture and decor was old and tired, the bed hard and uncomfortable, the carpet was dirty and threadbare and the bathroom was scruffy, with a shower that dribbled out boiling water only. It was also directly on the main road, so noisy and polluted. Even the lighting lacked any ambience and the lamps didn't match. To add to this, the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied from the previous occupant, which was rather revolting, but when I mentioned this, the staff did reduce the rate I paid, by way of an apology. So, I would recommend the Wheatsheaf for the friendly staff, the dining experience and if you are lucky enough to book one of the rooms in the separate wing, but if my room in the main inn was anything to go by, they are to be avoided until there is some serious refurbishment!
