Having used this hotel periodically over the past decade, I regret to say it doesn't seem to have the original atmosphere it once had. It is hard to describe but, I suppose, it is now the absence of good old-fashioned Northern hospitality - much more commercial and running on a tight budget. Although it has been refurbished and nicely decorated some original offerings have disappeared. For instance, at breakfast there used to be a great fruit salad and kippers and, generally, a wider choice. At times the hotel can be like a morgue, especially at weekends and seems to be aimed mainly at business travellers during the week. In contrast, when used for weddings receptions it can get very noisy. We had a standard double room with, quite honestly, a too small ensuite bathroom - very cramped. A long time bugbear for those of a sensitive hearing disposition is the electrical humming noise from the cellar cooler, which would keep them awake at night. In summary, although convenient for our infrequent visits it is functional and we would use again but are looking to see if there is anything better in the area.

Easily accessable from M1 Wakefield/Dewsbury road

Location: Dewsbury market.
We hadn't been for 3 years+ and were pleased to find the hotel completely upgraded to modern standards - and at a competative price. On the downside, there is still a problem in some parts of the hotel with electrical appliance humming noises, to which one of us is susceptible but avoided this by requesting a quiet room. Disappointingly, the breakfasts had reduced in range from what we remembered but nonetheless very good and comparable with most hotels. It's the kippers I miss! All in all, an easily-accessible hotel overlooking a playing field at the front situated between Ossett and Dewsbury and 5 minutes from the M1. Good facilities, helpful and pleasant staff - some of whom have been there a long time - and reasonable WiFi, good breakfasts and comfortable bedrooms and modern bathrooms. We would stay there again.

Couldn't sleep next to busy road.

I couldn't sleep in that bed! Generally a bad experience. I had to run from the separate building where are room was in the rain to go to the bar or speak to someone.
