Friends trip

Arrived and checked in at about 9.am. (which was nice) However receptionist informed us that it was room only and breakfast wasn't included. Which was odd because only a couple of weeks before we arrived I phoned and confirmed that breakfast was included. Sadly I didnt ask for email confirmation. The manager was called over and was immediately hostile - telling me I'd booked a cheap price so of course breakfast wasn't included. How am I meant to know it's a cheap rate? Cheap compared to what? Their advertised walk up rate that nobody pays? We were offered a discounted once only rate to pre pay for the buffet. We declined. Reason I phoned was I sent 2 emails and got no response. And until I get to work tomorrow to check the notes I wrote I cant be 100 certain but I have a feeling that the lady I spoke to found my email and read the questions back to me. The manager however told me there was no record of any email. Weird because the email I sent to the onsite Spa was received and replied to within hours of me sending that. Good points? * Good pool loungers * Reasonable location * - about 20 minutes in a cab from DXB airport * - less than 20 minutes to either Burj al Arab or Khalifa (Dubai Mall) * Concierge/trolley guys are always happy and friendly whilst driving you around site on the golf buggies. * The construction work that is going on next to the hotel is barely noticeable. A little drilling/cutting in the daytime but nothing at silly early o'clock. * From Villa 32 you cannot hear any noise at all from the many nightclubs/bars on site, I cant say about the other villas. * Mini bar is of course expensive but at least you can empty the fridge and use it for your own stuff, it's not one of those 'monitored' fridges that bills you as soon as you pick something up. * TV's in the room - had a varied range of languages/channels, though picture quality generally bad. * As we were there over Christmas, housekeeping left a chocolate yule log for us. Bad Points? No BAD points as such. just some 'could do betters' - more like frustrations. * Whilst all were very helpful, the staff (apart from Concierge/trolley guys) just seemed unhappy. All greeted you with a 'Hello' and all were helpful, they just appeared unhappy mostly. * Just 3 onsite shops. Beachwear, jewellery, normal hotel stuff (trinkets, souvenirs etc.) Only water sold by way of refreshments. Expensive obviously. * Lady's night at Bearfoot bar on Sundays. Limited to having to sit at the bar and not allowed to sit on the beanbags and tables all around the bar. Yet the sign doesn't mention that. * Happy hour - no mention of whats included or costs/savings. * Not allowed to bring your own drinking water or snacks into the pool area - again thats not written anywhere. * Cannot have a sun shade near the small pool - no mention of that anywhere but you can have them everywhere else. * I was booked for a pickup for a tour at 2.15pm and left the room at 2.10. Pick up was late. When we arrived back in the evening there was an 'URGENT NOTICE' letter pushed under the door to tell me the pick up was late. That was delivered after the planned pick up time so a bit useless really. * The bathtub was very cheap - so cheap that the bottom of it was bouncy when you stood in it to have a shower. * Checkout reasonably painless but had to wait for someone to go and check our room before they let us go. It's not like we were a group of rowdies partying the nights away and trashing the place or emptying the mini bar and not telling. ** Not at all related to the hotel:** Be aware - the Lexus taxis that are always parked outside are expensive in comparison to city taxis and not much more luxurious. Double the cost of the city taxi to the Dubai Mall Would I stay there again or recommend it? No simply because overall it was only 'OK' considering the rooms for were almost two hundred pounds per night

Relaxing break

Gorgeous hotel. Great resort feel to it. Everything was spotless. We are in the Mexican restaurant & it was delicious. Would go back again if it was a little cheaper.

Extensive renovations

The hotel is currently undergoing extensive renovations, so be prepared for scaffolding and the background hum of power tools. The beach is to be avoided due to huge construction taking place beyond the hotel perimeter and control, but this does destroy the view, the peace and the quality of the experience. Do not bother with a car pick up service from the airport. Our driver got lost, so hire a taxi direct from the terminal. For a five star hotel, I was disappointed in the plastic glasses served in the pool area for cocktails, the aggravation of being charged extra for an espresso coffee at breakfast instead of it being available as a matter of course, and the chef's total surprise and lack of cooperation when I asked for garlic and tobasco with my omelette. Otherwise, the food is very good, pool service excellent and rooms very nice. Do not recommend staying until confirmation that all building works are completed.

Awesome holiday

This is a nice hotel, we were in one of the normal room that supposed to have garden view, but to be honest the window is very small and the view we had was opposite building and was not great. Swimming pool is nice but ordering a drink and food by the pool and beach is so expensive.
