Falls short of basic standards

Pros: nothing - will not stay again and frankly will probably avoid Holiday Inn as a budget hotel offering in future.
Cons: the food, the staff, the attention to detail, the quailty checks before rooms are given to customers.
Location: I was on business.
Arrived at reception which was unmanned. I waited around for a while with all my bags before finally shouting over the counter through to the office. Not a big issue but 1st impressions count. Having checked in I arrived in my room which on the whole was clean and tidy. However upon the main wall at the side of the bed was a 2 foot long strip of wallpaper hanging off showing bare plaster and green mould growing on the wall - how on earth did this room pass quality control I don't know. I was exhausted and slept immediately however and as I was travelling alone I was not bothered about changing room. If this had been a family trip I would have asked for a refund and left! I ate at the restaurant too which was bad. The 6ft picture outside the restaurant showed a very juicy looking and appetising steak. However the one that arrived on my plate looked dismal and was majority gristle. The table next to mine had been waiting 20 minutes for a desert and the waiters were few and far between. The blue cheese sauce was awful and the chips were greasy - no salad or side and the plate looked poor - I left the entire meal and then had to go searching for a waiter so I could pay and leave. I was not asked how my meal was and later noticed they had charged me a discretionary 10% charge without even asking. This is unacceptable and rude -why would I pay for a service I never saw and for food that was awful. I could not wait to check out - pics taken of the mouldy walls!!

Does the job

A hotel that does the job. I found the room very dark and the pillows less than comfortable. Other than this, it did the job and met the needs for the price paid.
